Pang is one of the great underrated game franchises, all the games are really good and this is no different. I’ll second this - it’s great fun. You can pick it up for £1.39 on Steam right now, and it’s well worth it. Quote

I really don’t mind having a surplus of that, but it’s when the mandatory stuff gets out of control that I start to flag. And that happens here - I don’t even mind the additions to the story, it’s the length of the dungeons - I hope they tighten things up a bit in the final game. Optional content was very hit an miss for me. I don't hate it being there but I can get easily sidetracked by optional content, even if I don't like it. As for mandatory stuff, the Cait Sith section is definitely a big low point. Think I compared Remake to Yakuza/Like A Dragon, back in the day. And Rebirth definitely gave me those same vibes at times. Quote

As it stands, I’m really enjoying the side stuff (although I can’t quite get my head around some of the games, like shogi) and the dungeons aren’t overly long - it’ll be interesting to see if that changes given your comparison. It was the general vibe of Remake I was comparing more than things like dungeon design. Might just be me of course. Though I do believe that SE took the 'loads of side content' philosophy of RGG studios, when developing Rebirth. I'm also convinced that Atlus took some inspiration from RGG when it came to P5's story. Especially concerning things like political corruption. Hell Makoto's confidant story concerning a sleezy host, could be slotted straight into a Like A Dragon game and it would fit perfectly. Quote
Merzbow Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 I somehow only just heard of an open source project called OpenGOAL that completely recompiles the PS2 Jak & Daxter games to run natively on PC, no emulation. I'm currently playing it on my ultrawide monitor and it just works.. cut-scenes play at 16:9 (i think you can edit that tho..) but the gameplay itself is perfect and uses the entire screen, looks like it can be done on Steam Deck too. All you really need is an ISO file of the games. Quote

So I’ve been playing it and it is fun but it really is just a mobile game. How in the world was this nominated for game of the year? Quote

Horses for courses and everything but it’s the only game I’ve ever refunded on Steam because I didn’t feel it was worth the asking price. Quote

Sometimes it just needs to be a simple idea perfectly executed, as this is - and gains traction with the gaming media - as this has. I think it’s great, but then that one more game roguelike element triggers something in my brain - it sits in there with the likes of Dead Cells, Hades, Rogue Legacy (and 2) and Vampire Survivors Quote
Sphinx Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Completed FFVII for the first time yesterday after first playing it in 1999. I've played it in the 00s and the 10s too, but I'd get most of the way through and then move on to something else. Maybe I wasn't levelled up enough for the last boss - can't remember. I used a walkthrough more this time to grab materia I didn't know about before, get a gold chocobo, and read more into what stats mean. I spent quite a lot of the time doing that and then the final boss was finished piss easily. Realised after that I still haven't faced the Weapons though. I'd like to play through it again knowing what I know about materia and stats now. The New Threat mods look appealing - maybe one for the 2030s. Thinking I'll either finally go through Red Dead 2 next, Psychonauts, or Nier Automata. Quote
Dr. Alan Grant Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 I’m dusting off my Switch and ploughing through some of the games I’ve bought and never finished. Starting with Skyward Sword, before I tackle BotW and TotK. I really wish somewhere did a buy one get one free sale on Switch games so I can pick up some of the Nintendo exclusives like Metroid Dread, Mario Kart and Animal Crossing. They never seem to drop below £35, even second hand. Cheap compared to PS5 titles mind you. Quote

Just had a quick look for Metroid Dread and looks like you can get it for £15-£20 + postage. Animal Crossing looks a tenner cheaper too. Quote
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted December 30, 2024 Paid Members Posted December 30, 2024 I tried Outer Wilds. I enjoyed it to the point at which I actually took off. Landed on some ocean planet, kept getting sucked up by tornadoes, took off again and went to another planet and crash landed and died. Probably not for me. So now I'm playing PowerWash Simulator. How in the world was this nominated for game of the year? It’s better on a portable console for sure, but I think there’s absolutely room for it to be not only a GOTY nominee, but a GOTY contender. Yes, it’s a simple idea; but it’s one you can sink hours into. It’s also something completely unique. Astro is great - and my personal GOTY - but platformers aren’t new. Rebirth is great (if flawed) but it’s not breaking new ground. Balatro does something different - and it does it very well indeed. Plus, it was created by one person - when you consider how much it sold with that in mind, it’s an astonishing achievement. With that in mind, I think its award nominations are very much deserved. TildeGuy~! Posted December 30, 2024 Author Posted December 30, 2024 So I’ve been playing it more and more (and yes it is very addicting) Still can only get up to 6th Ante, I enjoy the thought process and how and when to play your cards and which Jokers to buy, think I’ll be selling the PS5 version and probably buying it on Mobile Quote
Paid Members BigJag Posted December 31, 2024 Paid Members Posted December 31, 2024 Hope everyone is having a fun Christmas period. Back when Black Wukong was released. There was another game that looked like it used the same engine. The game had a Northern European theme. Possibly Norwegian. Can anyone remember it's name? Quote
