I finally got around to playing and finishing Max Payne 3 after years of being put off thanks to the change in tone but damn what a shooter it is, the heavy weighted gun play absolutely pisses on anything Ive played in more recent years and as a third-person cover shooter is up there with Vanquish and Binary Domain. It's a beautiful looking game, too, the enviroments still look better and more alive than many games coming out on the lastest hardware. It's a rare feat when both realism and a distinct art-style can come together so well.

Star Ocean The Second Story R (PS5)

The original Star Ocean 2 on PS1 was one of those games I kicked myself for never buying/playing, so I'm happy to finally get a chance with the remake.

Really enjoying it so far. Story moves at a decent pace and the combat is pretty snappy.

Look lovely too, imo.

I'm not getting the PS5 Pro as I've not learnt to shit money yet, and to be honest a lot of what I'm seeing upgrade wise isn't convincing me it's worth it, but I enjoyed reading/watching this:

The VR improvements look great and if I had all the right stuff I'd definitely be enjoying those improvements. Looks like a really solid step forward for racing games.

But yeah. Not for me until I get that money tree.

Retro game shops seem to be doing pretty decently these days, there's a really good one in the center of Leicester that manages to mix up proper game stuff and merch tat really well. Last time I went in I managed to grab Fire Pro Wrestling on the GBA for less than a tenner.

They've grown! If anyone knows this shop and the Silver Arcade where it is situated. Then the link below is well worth reading.

I wasn't aware this was happening. I only walked past the ground floor shop the other day. I didn't spot anything that suggested they were expanding. I'll be popping in tomorrow to see how cool it is.

Picked up Arcade Paradise on sale in the eShop. I like the gameplay loop of the laundry, the arcade games are great. It's really chilled, and a proper time sink. So many guides say to stop doing the laundry tasks unless you get them on your to do list, but there are also a lot of people online wishing there was a way you could decorate the laundromat as well as the arcade.

My new girlfriend and I have also been enjoying those "Cats Hidden in" and "hidden cats in" games. They're like Where's Wally games. Really simple, and again something you can just chill out to.

I started a Digimon game, but there's not a whole lot of Digimon battling goes on early doors. It's decent enough though.

Also I'm still well into Brotato. I've nudged the difficulty down to a level that's still challenging but not ridiculous and am slowly making my way through as all the characters. No idea when the DLC is coming to Switch though.

I've reached the point in Rayman Legends where I'm thinking "Do I want to go through these ridiculously hard late levels again like I did with Rayman Origins?"

Again, a great game, but the difficulty curve is much steeper on this. I can't see myself ever doing the speedrun on Infiltration Station, and those 8-bit levels are almost impossible to keep watching.

The games consoles in nightclubs era, for many years after The Colly in Cov still had them set up in one of the rooms. I think it should be mandatory that every club has a playable copy of Wipeout 2097 for eternity.

I found the 8-bit levels impossible mainly because I had no idea where I was supposed to jump to, or what I was jumping on - whether it was an obstacle, a handle or a platform. They were a nice idea I suppose, but in practise they’re unfairly difficult.

Pretty sure I've mentioned it on here before but the airport level where you dive out shooting in the terminal and "Tears" by Health starts playing is one of the most perfect game moments I've ever experienced. Cracking game.

Finished Astro- it was beautiful - and just started Hogwarts Legacy. Not hugely impressed so far, and I dunno just feels a bit off playing as some boarding school posh boy twat. Could they not have added a South Lahndahn accent as a voice option?

I loved exploring the castle in Hogwarts Legacy and finding all of the secret areas, but as soon as I ventured outside into the wider world, I lost interest.

I’ve just started The Last Guardian for the first time. If the game ends with Trico dying, I’m throwing my console out of the window. I also bought Gran Turismo 7 with some PlayStation stars I had saved up. I haven’t played a GT game since 2 and I'm generally not a huge racing game fan unless they’re a bit arcadey like Forza Horizon. But I’ve wanted to play this for a while just because of the impressive visuals.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is getting incredible reviews.

Eurogamer 5/5

IGN 9/10

Gamespot 9/10

Gamesradar 5/5

PC Gamer 86/100

VGC 5/5

Even Metro who hate everything from Microsoft gave it 9/10.

I was going to hold off till around Christmas then binge the first three films and then play it but not sure I will be able to wait now.

Hits Game Pass on Monday.

The first person aspect still seems like an odd choice to me. Surely Indy lends itself to Tomb Raider/Uncharted style third person? But with reviews like that, it must be working. I may have to get Game Pass for a month.

I'm not surprised it's good, MachineGames are solid and I've been waiting for them to do a non Wolfenstein game since they started. It's a team who's core members were part of StarBreeze back when they were arguably the most interesting FPS dev team around and made rare stellar licensed titles.

I still say the Riddick games are far, far better than the films.

The Wolfenstein games are seriously underrated, and I really hope they get to do a third one now that this is done. But being a fan of their previous work, I’m really looking forward to giving this a try, I just hope that it’s not too puzzle-heavy.
