The worrying thing is, and as those first few comments in the picture show, there are still a tonne of people who think Scurll is completely innocent and should be signed to AEW, so chances are this will all blow over in a week and Hangman will be fine.

Of course he will, because people always forgive or conveniently forget what they want to when it involves one of their favourites (see: Omega booking Chasyn Rance as an example).

Will Ospreay is treated like a God. Everyone ignores/forgets/excuses all the Pollyanna accusations.

Darby Allin gets "well Gigi Dolin did say some things but she has since said she would be happy to work with him".

Who "we" choose to make excuses for and go "well, okay, I don't condone that but I will overlook it" does seem to be completely based on how much we like them or who they are affiliated with.

It's a bizarre, but not uncommon, phenomenon.

Exactly, the world's shit but in a old gag I used to do, if we all genuinely upheld a hardline moral stance on absolutely everything we'd be stuck listening exclusively to just Daniel O'Donnell for the rest of our days.

I don't think it's bizarre, I think if people have a body of work that you prefer or have some sort of emotional or deep artistic attraction too, and they turn out to be 'difficult' people, you will level or compartmentalise it. I don't feel it means you support it by not eliminating it though. In some cases people will absolutely be done with people on the level of the crime/act/behaviour (music wise if say Ian Watkins would be great example there on his level of depravity) or say Roman Polanski as a director. Some real decent sorts seem no problem working with him and stuff. It's all compartments and I don't begrudge people who find it difficult because it is.

Everyone is still friends with Marty, Matt Cardona has publicly called him his best mate. All those group photo's at parties  etc, he's the one taking the photo. I assumed it was very common knowledge.

Thing is we talk about wrestling fans being willing to overlook (some, not all) things due to a body of work. Friendship is a bigger blinding factor. Heck, I understand that wrestling involves putting trust it your fellow wrestlers every night. That trust and friendship is going to do a lot of work to make someone ignore terrible terrible behaviour

None of this is saying "oh it's OK" or "oh we should shut up about it". I'm just saying it's a really sad truth to all of this, especially given most of these wrestlers have essentially being unofficially convicted of their crimes. It's unfortunately easier to then tell youself it's just accusations, just a fan saying stuff.

As ever trying to better understand any of this is not an endorsement or suggesting any of this OK.  I'd like to think if a friend of mine was accused of something I'd do the right thing. However I think it's worth reflecting on why people don't so we might able to better navigate these waters if we find ourselves in them (the friend be accused waters, not nonsing waters, that you just drown in please)

I don't think that's a surprise. Maybe they believe his version of events. Maybe they believe everyone deserves a second chance. Personally, I don't expect anyone to never work again or never have friends because they've committed a crime or being a shitty human. I do expect that people who are in high profile positions and who publically support other great causes not to make appearances on the social media of dirty bastards who they know are ostracised from the big companies in the US. At least have enough respect for the people who like you to not put them in the position. It's incredibly poor judgement.

I thought the people who went to Vince McMahon's birthday party were disgusting and this is barely different.

Yeah, it's bad enough being friends with a scumbag and a nonce in the first place. But the sheer stupidity of posing for a social media photograph with the bloke is mind-blowing. What a fucking idiot.

Also, not excusing Hangman at all (he's a performative hypocrite who uses 'sex pest' lines in promos to get an ooohhh from the crowd, then goes for a beer with sex pests afterwards), but Marty Scurll is a piece of work posting the pic. Surely he knows the blowback Hangman is going to get from this?

That's the real question though isn't it. Beyond a few disgruntled people, will there actually really be any blowback? Based on how things usually go, it'll be minimal at best if at all. So he probably didn't even think for a second that it'd be an issue and sadly he's probably right.

I'm not surprised their still mates. If you decide to still be pally, fine do that. But when you take pics and put on social media you have to expect and accept criticism of it. Famous people are allowed a private life obviously, but when you make your personal life public that's on you.

I don't really know what I'd do in the situation, as luckily I've never had to be in that situation where a mate has been outted as a sex pest. I get people can change, but at the time Scurll (to the best of my memory) didn't even really deny what he did, he just tried to justify the actions, which made him comes across worse.

I don't want to write a huge spiel, so apologies for just generalising - but this just seems to be what it is in the industry. Not sure if it's the same in other sports / entertainment fields (although knowing some of the scum that just get attracted to wrestling maybe not) but should we sadly be surprised?

How many criminal prosecutions have actually happened? How many workers have been completely kicked-out? Not a huge amount considering how many allegations there are. It seems that those who have have walked away themselves because they don't want to be out there on display where people may verbally, or physically, attack them.  But you can bet that behind the scenes, just like Scurll, they're all still close friends.

Sadly there just seems this attitude among so many (although not all) that "oh well *shrugs shoulders* that's wrestling innit".

Possibly, I think like Ligero, it was a student of his too and she was wasted. Or it was at a party, which might have been Jack Gallagher, or Jimmy Havok. It's terrible that there are so many, you confuse the stories.

It just makes Hangman look like an utter hypocritical cunt. He's always trying to paint himself as this ultra sensitive progressive icon. But on the other hand is more than happy to take a selfie with a guy who date raped a girl barely out of high school. But then again, I don't do the whole parasocial thing some folk do with wrestlers. I just assume they're all wronguns and that's that. And if that's the company Page keeps, I'll give him the side eye from now on.

I think Marty managed to hoodwink a lot of his American mates by being able to say "16 is legal in the UK", while leaving out the fact that the girl was drunk, and he was in something of a position of authority over her, and that I'd heard of him having a reputation for going after teenagers long before Speaking Out happened, and I've never worked with him, so if it reached me it can hardly have been secret knowledge. How much of that made it across the pond, I don't know.
