I want to get my 15yo a gaming laptop for their birthday. My upper budget is a grand. PC World had fuck all. Any recommendations for machines or places? Much appreciated.

Something I’d recommend depending on your time frame is looking for local independent computer stores that build them for you. You can go in and tell them features you want, games she will often want to play and they’ll build it to those specs for a fraction of the cost of a pre-built one. I did it with my old PC and it served me well for 9 years for £700.

Get a Mac [/OldSkoolLoki]

Have a 16” touchbar 2019 model.

All my other Macs have been bullet proof, fecking thing needed a new logic board two weeks ago and now is shutting down again.

Reset Pram, Rest SMC, Ran Disk First Aid, reinstalled the OS. No good, same issue.

Literally onto Apple support at the moment .

I’ve had many Macs and this one has been a stinker from Day 1. I hear the M1 models are great though.

Unfortunately the local shop we had closed down a couple of months ago and I'm not even sure where the nearest one is. But I'll bear it in mind, thanks!

@Merzbow I really don't know anything about Steam Decks but my kid said they're not sure if it would allow them to do stuff like watch YouTube and play Minecraft, which I think isn't supported by Steam? They're looking into it though, cheers!

There’s one in Chorlton but to be honest, it’s probably a front for money laundering as it changes name every week.

Anybody fooked around with AI in any capacity?

What is the best AI for generating pictures ?

It's a broad question as they use different learning sources. I think Midjourney does the most jaw dropping and believable stuff but I think it's paid access only.

My personal favourite was Goth World, a theme park.

I bought one on Ebay (I just wanted something cheap so didn't really bother too much with the options and what not) from a small shop that just listed it's stock online. Note sure how they compare price wise but Computer Specialist UK | eBay Stores it was. I'm sure other small outlets do something similar.

I'm looking for a good free or very cheap photo / picture editing tool. What would the good ship UKFF recommend these days?

Photopea.com. Identical to Photoshop but awesome price.
