Its just one of those issues where you can tell that it's just not how the people in wrestling view it, it's an argument created on the Internet that exists only on the Internet.

Whatever. I was happy for Sami Zayn that he main evented Wrestlemania and said it was his proudest moment, and I'm happy for CM Punk.

Good for them.

But he won the Rumble, it should be the main event of night 1, even though he technically won't be in the main event as it's night 1. 

Basically they should have both title matches going on at the same time, like the old ECW Double Jeopardy stipulation, and both be Fatal Four Ways.

I imagine he'll be happy enough winning the world title in the opener and making a shit tonne off merch rather than worrying about where on the card his match is slotted. I doubt whether people thinking it's not "technically" a main event will be keeping him awake.

The thing is even during the Rumble itself they mentioned multiple times the winner gets to headline WrestleMania and they mentioned it after Jay won, so they set the rule/expectation. Maybe he needs to change his name to Opening Match or Title Match Jay Uso to reflect the direction?

In fairness they've had "Double Main Events" loads of times dating all the way back to 1992, it's a bit of dumb hype terminology that means nothing so I'd not put too much stock in their promotional tactics. A main event can in theory be whatever they say it is.

Exactly, and that would be absolutely great. We're past the days of people "jerking the curtain" or whatever and there have been some big matches open PPVs recently (I cba to actually find any and list them though)

Let's go with how WWE say it, as it's their company so it's the law and of you disagree I'm sorry, but you will be going to jail.

Wrestlemania's 1, 3-7 all have a singular promoted main event. 2 was promoted as having three main events, 4 technically is the only main event by the way that we went in not knowing both people in the match. 8 & 9 were promoted as DOUBLE MAIN EVENTS, so yes Mike Rotunda & Brutus Beefcake main evented on the grandest stage. 10 technically has NO main event, they were just promoted as the two title matches. 11-18 all have a singular promoted main event. Now the Brand Split is unclear, as do both Championships represent a main event? We've never had it clarified. It's gets all messy from there.

Of course, they all have lovely Wrestlemania Main Events. You don't want to offend the other main events Ted.

Now they do two nights, I suspect, “Wrestlemania Main Eventer,” will go the same way as, “World Champion,” and, “Hall of Famer,” where almost everyone gets a go and there’s no real gravitas about it.

Huh, I always thought the trolling was over him getting an Austin match at Mania specifically, not a 'Main event at Mania' thing. TMYK
