"Kooky" female lead and shy, quiet male lead, eho she slowly gets to break out of his shell. Nonlinear narrative, which has a become an overused storytelling mechanic. Clementine is not a manic dream pixie girl as you seem to be saying, but yes a lot of indie films seem to have based characters on her but only from the first third or so of the movie while completely ignoring that in fact she's the complete opposite when you see her true self.
