Rey_Piste Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 I don't know if this belongs here or the proper food thread, but I had a five guys burger for lunch. it was greasy and sloppy, which is why I think it belongs here. it was fucking great and all the hype about the place is deserved. Quote
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted May 27, 2017 Paid Members Posted May 27, 2017 Yeah, I had one a couple of weeks ago, really enjoyed it. Their cajun fries were smashing too. Quote
Rey_Piste Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 The cajun chips were fing dope! Dr Pepper on tap was a bonus as well. Quote
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted May 27, 2017 Paid Members Posted May 27, 2017 I love the simple approach to the way they do things. Small menu, mostly burgers, all drinks cost the same, go and stand over there and we'll yell your number at you, here's a bag full of your food, now piss off. Great. Quote
Rey_Piste Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 Nine quid for a bacon cheeseburger sounds pricey, but I've paid that for a wanky burger, served on a slate that was too thick to either eat properly. They are still cheaper than the Gourmet Burger Kitchen which is the other side of the road. Quote

CavemanLynn Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 (edited) I definitely prefer to go somewhere that does a few things well than filling the menu with a ton of toss nobody'll eat or treading on everyone else's toes with mass-produced prepacked crap. There's a unit down our seafront that changes owners every six months. Last year, it was clear a bunch of punky school leavers had cobbled enough money together for a summer rental and set up a hot dog business. No shitty pink fish frankfurters, but proper fried franks and brats. Just pick beef or pork and then whatever basic toppings and sauces you wanted. Dead easy, and they piled that up so greasy sweet sausagey goodness got up your nose and dribbled all over the backs of your hands and out the back of the paper wrapper. Great stuff. Miss that place. Paid Members PunkStep Posted May 27, 2017 Paid Members Posted May 27, 2017 I love the fact that a medium chips involves them filling up a massive fucking paper bag full of them. I bloody love Five Guys. Bit pricey, but lovely as a treat now and then. Quote

I got sucked in by the hype and was expecting it to make me fill my pants. It's alright, but for a remortgage job I want it to be so much better. I'd rather have an XL Bacon Double from Burger King and use the difference to buy a new car. You must have an excellent BK or average Five guys to make that claim. Especially as an XL is only a few quid cheaper. 4 hours ago, PunkStep said: I love the fact that a medium chips involves them filling up a massive fucking paper bag full of them. What I like is they fill up a cup to overflowing, put that into a bag and then keep filling up the bag as if they had forgotten the original cup of chips! Enough to share to boot. Oh, and the free peanuts as you wait Quote
Mr_Danger Posted May 28, 2017 Posted May 28, 2017 I walked in to a Five Guys the other week, took one look at all the young ones in there, heard the racket and went straight to the Hungry Horse for an awful plate of something Fred Flintstone would eat off the big eat menu. Anyway, enough of fancy Dan burgers and indoor eateries. Who's had Burger Toast? Is a tin of mashed up burger and gravy. Like Westlers but even less identifiable as meat. I never tried it with melted cheese but I'm sure it could only improve it. Quote
Merzbow Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 Saw this posted on Twitter, they're Croatian but I'm going to have a look for them in the big Polish supermarket 'cause I'm racist and think they're all the same east of Germany. Quote

I know I'm basically the Antichrist in this thread these days, what with turning vegetarian and all, but the gentrification of burgers beyond all recognition did my swede in. My rule of thumb was that if it had a Brioche bun, it ought to go in the bin. Quote
Moderators neil Posted August 15, 2017 Moderators Posted August 15, 2017 Brioche is awful for a burger bun anyway. Quote

That's one of the things about Five Guys, it is just a fairly standard burger, but cooked really well an with your choice of toppings. Quote
