Realising we're getting old.

Most of the team I work in are younger than my children.  (To clarify, my children are of legitimate working age rather than me running an authentic Victorian chimney sweep enterprise).

My kids genuinely thinking of the 80s as the olden times, and then realizing that to them the 80s is what the 1940s was to me when I was a young kid, but also unable to understand it.

On a better note, buying trainers entirely based on comfort rather than fashion and happily walking around in my max cushioned marshmallow foam Hoka trainers while scoffing at those wearing flat shoes.

A few things for me.

Pension - Have always paid into it but in recent months have actually looked at the balance and transferred everything into one pot to see how things could look like (doubt I will with retirement age going up an up). 

Bins - Seems to be something I take pride in, taking the bins out, making sure everything is in the correct bin etc. Weirdly its something I take pride in lol. 

Technology/AI - Always saw myself as very good with technology growing up, but now I feel like I've lost my touch a little bit, everything now going AI is quite scary. I always used to think 'How can old people be so silly and full for scams' and now can see how emails or social media or AI can catch you out. I jokingly say to my friends that I will probably get scammed by an AI girlbot in 10-15 years and give her all my savings.

Apparently the most recent release is Now that’s what I call Music 124

The first one I got (double cassette) was Now that’s what I call Music 12 in the summer of 1988.

38 years ago.

We had them all, but 22 was the first one I was conscious of and playing it myself.

I still love that Richard Marx track even though its shit.

Now 23 was my shit though, banger after banger.

I used to have to walk along a fairly secluded road from the train station home after work. My ex once drove past me and texted me later to ask what I was literally screaming along to. Obviously it was Jon Secada.

If you were to ask me to guess just one song that features on the tracklist of Now 124, I genuinely don't think I could do it. That's my contribution to this thread! So out of touch with modern chart music. I never thought that would happen to me, when I was younger I thought I'd always keep up with what was current but the he way the music industry and how we listen to music has changed means that it's so easy to lose touch.

If it makes you feel any better, I doubt any young people know either. No one cares about the charts these days.

I remember cleaning out my nan’s house a few years ago and found my mum’s old Now 3 on vinyl.

Well, I had a look at the tracklist out curiosity and only knew one song - Dinner Party by Niall Horan. That actually made me feel worse because it's like knowing the one song on the album that was always on their for your nan to pop to.

The first one I got on cassette was Now 13 in the winter of 1988.

If I want to feel really old I remind myself that while I was flunking out of my music degree in 2002 my now girlfriend was starting secondary school...

Go by The Chemical Brothers is on there which is a banger. Weird as well as it came out about 10 years ago, assume its been in a TV show.

I probably know some songs due to the kids but they all sound the same to me, which I'm sure they're not and I'm obviously just old.

Just got off a long haul fight and have swollen ankles; legs look like Lashford sausages (uncooked). 

Booked a meeting with a financial advisor on Monday to sort out pension, investments and savings. 

Looking forward to sleeping in my own bed.
