Paid Members gmoney Posted August 25 Paid Members Posted August 25 A very small part of my last job role involved watching Cruise line deal infomercials and making sure they weren't using any dodgy selling practices, and every single time I had to do it got swept away, thinking "I could do with this". The Gaffer Posted August 25 Posted August 25 A big thing for me over the last year since hitting 35 is being fine with just being fine. I'm not suggesting that kind of mentalizing is the sole domain of creeping into your middle years but I feel as though for me it's definitely been the case. I've spent the last few years unmasking a lot and then learning just how much effort that was taking out of me once my facial muscles started to untense. Thing is...whilst it was incredibly destructive, the energy I had for that masking was at least buoyed by a sort of naive idealism and being in a constant chase state for some kind of validating transpersonal experience like that bit in Human Traffic where they're all coming up together on the dance floor in slow-mo waking dream finery. So I wouldn't trade the honesty now for anything, but at the same time there's a wee bit of grief for what was, and the eejit child who bore the load of it. So I'm untensing into a world where it's a little tricker to find enchantment, but when I do find it now I guess I'm not looking for it to save me. Basically, I'm too knackered to exaggerate smiles or stay out pass my bedtime or pretend the event I went to was good because I went to it and I must find something good in it, now. It's madly liberating. Oh yeah, and I bought a PS3 the other day so I could re-engage with gaming as a cheapo, low-investment, physical media hobby. Found this for €2.50 in CEX: Some people have summers. I have maximum breaks. Quote
Paid Members Jazzy G Posted August 25 Paid Members Posted August 25 I wouldn't mind going on a cruise. There are two I've seen that I'd like: one of those Scandinavian ones where you see Fjords etc, and one I saw that was the bottom end of Argentina and a stop-off in Antarctica. Quote

I want to do a Scandinavian one too! Around Norway and the Fjords in particular Quote
Paid Members Bus Surfer Posted August 25 Paid Members Posted August 25 (edited) We did a 7 day Med cruise 2 years back and it was honestly one of the best holidays I've ever had. It was with TUI on the newish Marella Voyager, and as someone who hates crowds and masses of people, I assumed I would hate it but it was just awesome. The ship never felt rammed, we queued for nothing and it was all very clean, well ran without issue. The only downside was feeling ashamed at how well you are treated by the lovely crew staff who seem to be worked to the bone. They could not do enough and it made me slightly uncomfortable at times. We did go on adults only which probably helped with the stress levels, but I am chomping at the bit to go again and would love to go further afield. Edited August 25 by Bus Surfer Quote

I’d love to do that one, but I’m pretty sure it costs £12,000. By the time I can afford to do it and have the time, it’ll be mostly melted. Quote
Moderators Chest Rockwell Posted August 25 Moderators Posted August 25 Well.. I have to say this thread is now heaving the opposite effect and making me feel much younger! Quote
Members SuperBacon Posted August 25 Members Posted August 25 Took my eldest to enrol at college and some lad behind me has just described Arctic Monkeys as an "old band" Quote
Paid Members garynysmon Posted August 25 Paid Members Posted August 25 I should also add that I feel doubly old today given how I’ve tried to get my money‘s worth out of the alcoholic drinks package on board…. It was fun at the start of the week. Quote

Paid Members Wretch Posted August 25 Paid Members Posted August 25 I’m in a hotel room in Budapest and it’s just taken me ten minutes to work out how to change the volume on the remote ☹️ Quote
Tim Healys Chutney Spoon Posted August 25 Posted August 25 Best, and only so far, cruise I did was a Red Sea cruise which started and ended in Egypt but took in Jordan too. Such an underrated country is Jordan. The people were lovely and no way were they pushy and hounding you like the Egyptians do. That was a TUI cruise and then 3 days in a hotel in Sharm. Would definitely do it again if I could! Speaking of holidays, we're in Weymouth for the the week and the kids got grumpy as I preferred taking pictures of buildings and scenery and enjoying the architecture rather than running in all the arcades and pissing money up the wall. When the fuck did I start admiring buildings and scenery??! Quote
