If you can pay the wages, just hoard players and wait for the next bump in the market. Are they a success? It doesn't matter. This one gave me pause there too. I thought "Sure he's been a bust, that used to mean you had to sell for less than you paid." However some clubs are just much better at selling than others, whether the player justifies the fee or not. I've no doubt that if Delap, or Savinho were Manchester United players - the fees they would be moving for would be drastically smaller than these reported £50 and £75M. United have been dreadfully poor at getting fees in for players they want to move on - but usually that's somewhat understandable, based on the poor performances of the likes of a Sancho, Rashford, Onana, etc. That should be the same with Chelsea and City for players like Delap, Reijnders, Savinho, Gittens, etc - players the clubs obviously want to move on - but it won't be. Somehow they will, or are going to, do well off of these player sales. Quote

Considering there was a thought that transfer fees might be a thing of the past only a few years ago with high-profile Bosman's and the Lassana Diarra case, it's actually exploded. £75m for Savinho, who joined City for £30m and hasn't been a success is mental, even if you take into account that City got a preferential deal from a sister club. Chelsea wanting £50m for Delap is similar madness. If you can pay the wages, just hoard players and wait for the next bump in the market. Are they a success? It doesn't matter. I suppose Chelsea's argument would be he scored goals in a shit Ipswich team so he can score and they only paid £30m because that was the release clause. Surely nobody is paying that for Delap unless they become desperate in January. Quote
Gooner Posted August 22 Posted August 22 I'm very happy with the Konsa signing. To bring in one of the best CB's in the league, who is English for £51m is good business. He will fit right in, add depth to the CB/RB positions and bring us that extra quality that is always welcomed. It's always nice to start the season, the way you mean to end it. We didn't need to get out of second gear, Tzolis has been doing really well in pre-season and continued that form, another stand out showing and long may they continue. One trophy in the bag, another four avaliable, I'm confident will win at least two out of the remaining four. Retaining our title is a must. Fantastic way to start the new season, Champions! Quote

Paid Members TheBurningRed Posted August 22 Paid Members Posted August 22 (edited) Spurs result has made the United one easier to swallow at least. Although we lost to a shitter club. Edited August 22 by TheBurningRed Quote

Astonishingly dismissive of a club that played you off the park, played with more courage and passion, and whose fans never stopped singing from minute one. Hull might be a smaller club, but they're not a shit club. After yesterday, though, I may concede that Coventry are a shit club. Fuck sake. Miss the Championship. Quote
Paid Members TheBurningRed Posted August 22 Paid Members Posted August 22 Might’ve been too dismissive and shit a bit OTT. But we should’ve continued where we left off and statistically a better club than Hull. It was a lot of disappointment and frustration after that game. Was actually looking forward to this season and really thought we’d get started fast and give them a bit of a hiding. Hoped for too much. Quote

As discussed, I don't 'support' other teams but just like watching football and not travelling two hours for the privilege. Though, yes, Brentford's win was a lot of fun. Quote

It's worthless, though I admit, like the league cup or whatever that trophy is called, but I feel like taking them all. Don't worry your precious little head, just stand up for the champs and pay homage. Quote
Cousin Jim Bob Posted August 22 Posted August 22 If United and Spurs want to get into relegation battles again this could be a fun season. Hopefully one of them actually gets booted this time. Quote
