Having said that, I do think McInnes is a good manager, but it’s hard to excuse the results he’s had since moving to Ibrox. Simply put, that squad shouldn’t be losing to a team like this. And what the heck was he doing playing McCrorie on the left? Why shouldn't they? Jaga have done really well in the Europa Conference last two seasons. Getting to the quarter finals in 24/25 season, losing to Real Betis. Then took Fiorentina to extra time in the knockout playoffs last season. This extra money has allowed them to invest in players outside of Poland which is the same model as Legia & Lech Poznan who have the most success in the Ektraklasa. 1st match was played in 30 degree weather, so not normal temps for Scotland and 9 new signings for Rangers, who have clearly not bedded in yet. Underestimation at its finest. And top trolling by Jaga when the Rangers fans said the club sounded like a WiFi password. Quote

Rangers have been a side who have also performed well in Europe in recent years - however, looking at the performances in both games, I don’t agree that it’s underestimation - at least not of Jaga. Rangers aren’t a squad of unknowns, this is a squad packed with talented players. While I wouldn’t suggest the same couldn’t be said for Jaga, I don’t think they looked anything more than ordinary in both games - they didn’t perform like a side that this group of players should be struggling against. I take your point about players taking time to bed in, and while there have been nine new signings, not all of them are regular starters (or started these matches) and the bulk of them have had a pre-season behind them. Rangers have spent a hell of a lot of money since the takeover, so the direction of travel as far as their performances are concerned shouldn’t be backwards. And again, I think they’ve assembled a very capable squad. Quote

Went on Twitter to find it and made the mistake of looking at the replies to the video and to Daniel Storey's piece on it. JFC, that site is horrific. Awful, hateful people everywhere. Quote

The hideous people on there aren't just West Ham fans. Quote

Although we can all put our mortgage on Johnson scoring the winner in the season opener. Is it one of those Allardyce style "moneyball" deals where both clubs think the player coming in will fit into their squad's needs better than the outgoing one? Quote

Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted August 21 Paid Members Posted August 21 Spurs paying £75 million for Savinho doesn't really have any competition for worst business of the window so far, does it? He did fuck all for City. If you get him for £30 million he might do something for you occasionally off the bench and in the League Cup but fucking hell. Quote

If you look at the two deals of Savinho and Marmoush, with the former being weighted because City have to pay a sell on fee to Frankfurt for Marmoush, it makes slightly more sense (grim for Frankfurt but I guess that's business) but I wouldn't be paying anywhere near that, but then it's not my money so I don't care and the market is broken. It's very reasonable to think simultaneously that Savinho and Marmoush have been really underwhelming but at the same time improve a team that have just finished 17th two seasons in a row, and an attack that is just so stale. Both those players give Spurs depth. We've just come off two horrendous seasons (with a European trophy) so have to stabilise to become competitive with "proven" Prem players before being able to take a punt, that's the reality. I'd love us to have had a punt on Mikahautdze or however it's spelled as he looks super fun, but there we are. Is Savinho worth 75m? No. Is Eliott Anderson worth 120m? No. Should Arsenal have paid 50m for Konsa to warm the bench after Saliba is fit? No. Is there anyone out there worth mad money? Yes, one man. Quote

In fairness, I think Konsa will get quite a fair bit of game time even when Saliba is back. We are going to be playing a lot of games over the next season or two. Saliba's injury could be 3 months, could be the whole season and as they're not opting for surgery, and if it doesn't work he could be out for longer or there could be setbacks galore. There's a lot of unknowns there. Getting an England international (which as has been the case for years, his nationality will add at least 10 million to his value to prem teams) defender who looks like he would plug nicely into our system with minimal disruption, for 50 million doesn't actually seem like a bad bit of business. Especially as we've been heavily criticised in the past for not buying players to cover injuries. Quote
Members SuperBacon Posted August 21 Author Members Posted August 21 50m for a sub/cup player is mental, but as I've just said the market and the fees are beyond broken and won't recover for ages. Quote

He's not going to be a sub or cup player necessarily, that was my entire point. Saliba's injury is not a straightforward one. Quote

I understand perfectly why Arsenal are signing him, and sure he'll play in the short term but once Saliba is back he doesn't start a league game over the established two. I think he's a good player, but it's still a mental fee IMO for an injury cover. Its not as if Arsenal don't have defensive options that could play centre back either. But again, what do any of us care, not our money is it? Pay Villa 500m if you want Quote

This market is insane and absolutely justifies any of these clubs who stockpile players. Considering there was a thought that transfer fees might be a thing of the past only a few years ago with high-profile Bosman's and the Lassana Diarra case, it's actually exploded. £75m for Savinho, who joined City for £30m and hasn't been a success is mental, even if you take into account that City got a preferential deal from a sister club. Chelsea wanting £50m for Delap is similar madness. If you can pay the wages, just hoard players and wait for the next bump in the market. Are they a success? It doesn't matter. Quote
