It’s a…it’s a……..nother music thread!  Thought so!

Veeeeery loose criteria for this one, but what’s your favourite song that isn’t an actual song - by which I mean, it’s a fictional song, performed by a fictional character as opposed to a piece of music written specifically for say a soundtrack, and not just comedy songs either.

As is tradition, I’ll kick things off with a couple of my favourites.

POP - POP Goes My Heart

Catchy as fuck, and as I get on in years I’ve rarely sympathised more with a character than when Hugh Grant does his hip performing the signature move!

Tony Ferrino - Lapdancing Lady

The inspiration for this thread funnily enough as my son caught me red handed belting this out in the kitchen a minute ago.  Whilst PGMH does a great job of being an actually good pop song, there are few things I find funnier than when ludicrous material is performed completely straight.

And because I specifically said “not just comedy songs” let’s go with…

Sam Beckett - Somewhere In The Night

A song I loved so much (in a story so tragic I can’t believe I’m about to put it in writing) that I told a girl at school who I fancied, and crucially, knew didn’t watch Quantum Leap - that I had written - because as we all know if there’s one thing 12yr old girls love, it’s 12 year old boys who write ballads.

I’ll leave some good stuff for the rest of you, but yeah, songs that aren’t songs but are bloody great songs… go!

I'm fairly sure they came up with the idea for the movie just to build it around this gag. If you've not seen Role Models, firstly, it's great fun. Secondly a bunch of characters keep singing this song, adamant that it's a Wings song. It then plays over the credits with a McCartney impersonator doing the vocal.

A lot of good answers and discussion in here:

@Frankie Crisp I know you know, but I must always point out that Dennis came up with the Dayman melodic "aaaaaAAAAAAA" and I need everyone to give the Golden God the credit he deserves :)

Putting context in a spoiler since this is a currently airing series (Interview With The Vampire S3)

Spoiler

In this season Lestat is attempting to become a vampire rockstar, but is struggling to open up enough to be emotionally authentic. In "Your Biggest Fan" he turns his account of being abducted, abused, and forcibly turned into a vampire into a romantic ballad of longing from his abductor's perspective. It's simultaneously hilarious and heartbreaking and is so far my favourite song of this series.

Comedy song I'm afraid, but Ade Edmondson as Keith Marshall (and his musical anarchy) from 'Kevin Turvey: Behind the Green Door' always makes me laugh for how brilliantly crap and earnest it is. Especially the saxophone break.

The right answer is probably the original 'Tongue Tied' as @Frankie Crisp posted. It's so good.

I remember Tony Ferrino very well as a kid and being totally confused, because I hadn’t heard of Steve Coogan or Alan Partridge and when Tony appeared on things like Live & Kicking I was very much not in on the joke and didn’t understand why they had this guy on the show.

I also conflate him with Mike Flowers Pops… except I’m still not sure whether he was meant as a joke or not.
