Because the "wrestler cuts a promo, is interrupted by another wrestler cutting a promo, they talk at each other in the ring" trope is something that began with WWE. And it only really moved to WCW once they started trying to ape WWE. And then everyone else did it because everyone else was already doing it, and that's how wrestling works.

Well into the '90s, WCW's set-up was always much more likely to have Gene Okerlund interview someone on the ramp, and even if that interview/promo was interrupted, you still had Gene there anchoring it as a logical format point on a wrestling show, able to keep things under control, and being in control of the microphone to at least explain why wrestlers who hate each other would just stay silent and let their rival speak. As I said, I would rather see AEW format these segments like that, with Renee or Schiavone in the Mean Gene role.

To add to Pat’s WWE trope point, I found it particularly annoying that Jericho interrupted Ciampa, who was a second away from giving Tony Schiavone a good kicking, by doing his full fucking entrance. Ciampa could’ve beaten Schiavone to within an inch of his life by the time Jericho decided to finally get in the ring, but instead he was just standing there like an idiot waiting, to then go into the ridiculous back & forth.

Give me a motivated Eddie Kingston talking better than anyone on the roster or Shawn Michaels sliding half way across the ring to break things up, pushing over a lectern for good measure any day.

They absolutely love doing that for some reason. He turned up on Dynamite last week and got a huge pop so ofcourse he was not there this week.

Live fans got to see him. He was really needed for an ROH match instead of tv.

I think if it started thirty years ago and is used in every single wrestling promotion I've ever seen since then (I've seen it in New Japan) then I think it's fair to say it's a general crap trope, rather than the company it originated it. You wouldn't call a topé a "lucha spot" these days.

Wrestling is this wonderful blank canvas where you can tell all kinds of stories and you can really tell them anyway you want as long as it's designed to end in a match (or series of matches). So why it usually ends up being two people standing in the ring explaining the story and telling you their feelings fucking baffles me. It's just so BORING.

Like anything there's definitely a time and a place for it but it's just the standard go to now.

I think it's the fact that AEW often does so well at obviously going against the typical lazy 'expected' approach of pro wrestling, and tries to take more logical or different ways at getting to the same result. So when it feels like it's descending into the norm it feels a bit lazy because it has every opportunity to be an actual alternative.

I refuse to be too negative about a show where Orange Cassidy ripped his jeans off to reveal more jeans underneath.

A spot as good as that in the Dark Days between 2010 and 2019 would’ve been enough to keep my fandom alive for a solid year or two.

I've never seen Bad Dude Tito before but by the name alone he's my new favourite wrestler.

Doyle/Bailey and BCC/STP should be great fun.

It always makes me think of my Grandad, who loved World of Sport, and would get genuinely animated and excited talking about his favourite wrestlers of the old days, watching ten minutes of a WWF show that was all in-ring promos, turning to me and asking, "do this lot ever wrestle?". It's everything that people who don't watch wrestling think wrestling is.

I like Bad Dude Tito, very athletic big man who has an old school  jock heel charisma about him. He can also hang at a more sprinty pace with a smaller opponent in short bursts, I think he’d be a fun opponent for Kenny.

He’s been in AEW and ROH a few times over the years as part of TMDK, usually on ROH/Zero Hours etc. He had a good one against Gringo Loco on ROH, definitely a good base for the aerially inclined.

Cynics will say Chris Jericho has nothing left in 2026, but what other wrestlers have their finger so precisely on the pulse that they’re releasing NFTs, using shitty AI graphics, in twenty twenty six?

IMG_6567.thumb.jpeg.c8599e6caf908868771328cf987f13fa.jpeg

Lionheart, Y2J, The Codebreaker, Le Champion, The Painmaker, The Learning Tree, and now his newest character, the Boomer Uncle that no-one invited, explaining his new get-rich-quick scheme to anyone who’ll listen.

Genuinely a bit depressing considering how sharp and cutting edge Jericho once felt. He now feels weeks away from copying and pasting to his feed, “I do not give Facebook or any entities associated with Facebook permission to use my pictures, information, messages or posts, both past and future.“

This current Jericho run just feels like this:

Can't wait till he feuds with Kyle Fletcher and completely fucks up his momentum.
