He isnt. Well he shouldn't be. He hasn't been. But absolutely since he came back he regressed into that and just seems to be coasting character wise. And I think thats the most disappointing part of it all. They're fully capable of introducing layers and making MJF more sustainable in the long run.

Fletcher kicked out of one big move too many for me, but that match with Moxley was exceptional, I thought. The best Moxley match I've ever seen. And it didn't need blood or gore.

Agreed,

I remember very early on when MJF first started to get noticed in CZW. He released a couple of "reality TV" style videos introducing the gimmick etc. and the last one showed that the MJF gimmick was a front and he was actually this insecure, nerdy kid playing the arrogant, rich kid. It was great and added a nice layer to the character.

Many characters could do with more layers adding to them in modern wrestling, in my opinion.

The quandary with MJF for me is he actually is as we've seen a very multi-layered character, but the only time he really does get booed is when he does low hanging fruit business, anything above that people tend to cheer for him.

It's very weird because the CM Punk feud and Adam Cole storyline were brilliant and incredibly innovative deconstructions of his one note character which makes him going straight back to that so frustrating, shit and impossible to engage with. It's basically ignored years of character development and acting like it never happened.

Something to add, I massively enjoyed seeing Timeless Toni and Orange Cassidy interacting. More of that for me, I want Timeless Toni Storm to be utterly confused by the concept and essence of Orange Cassidy.

I can see some legs in Mox acting like the Continental Title is the top belt. 

But MJF, Im sceptical at best. If they wanted to get belts swapped Stat needs to drop ASAP, shes just not at that level for me. Her matches are usually good, but no better, and her promos are the drizzling shits.

I’m convinced the Adam Cole storyline ultimately bombing so hard resulted in Max completely bottling it. It’s like he abandoned any attempt at subtext and decided to lean into the worst, cheapest, shallowest element of the act. A real sense of, “I guess you guys aren’t ready for that yet…can I interest you in some 4Chan bollocks?”

A comedy wrestler once told me how every promotion he works for sooner or later decides to do a story about how "this time the funny guy needs to get serious", he has a "serious wrestling match"...and then goes right back to doing comedy at the next show, because that's what he does, that's what people expect to see, and what he gets booked for. The "get serious" stuff never matters.

MJF's character development is the same. It doesn't mean anything if he just moves on to the next story and goes back to being the same guy he was before. So it just seems like he is doing it to show that he's super smart and creative, but never actually joins the dots to make it make sense or actually mean anything long term.

It’s what makes taking the belt off Hangman and giving it to Joe and then MJF even more heartbreaking. There was a real, tangible arc to watching Hangman fall, rebuild, evolve and reach the top of the mountain again. For both Joe and Max, there is no arc. Just a tiny, straight line. Backwards.

I dread to think what, “dunks,” Max is already practicing in the mirror to use in a promo against Bandido.

The greatest trick the devil ever played, was convincing wrestling fans that he had layers. 

Boring cunt winning aside, I did enjoy the show overall. 

The ref looked a right clueless twat during the finish to Okada Vs. Takeshita. 

Thought Mox was great. Especially his match with Kyle. 

Women's tag title match was fine. Mone crashing out afterwards was a good laugh. 

Statlander Vs. Hayter started slow but got really good later in. 

Mixed match was fun indie style bollocks.

FTR Vs. BB Gang was alright but another one of those traditional 'should have been on Dynamite/Collision' matches. 

Darby Vs. Gabe was a great violent war. I'm not against their feud continuing. 

7/10.
