Chili Posted October 14, 2025 Posted October 14, 2025 They're cunty and annoying. But I'd be prone to changing my mind if they got creatively niche. Like if they busted out something to the tune of 'The Old Grey Mare' (complete with shuffle), anything by Dennis Waterman or 'McArthur Park' (the entire song) Quote
The King of Old School Posted October 14, 2025 Posted October 14, 2025 Same folk moaning about crowds chanting/singing would do exactly the same if they sat there in silence the whole time. Quote
DavidB6937 Posted October 14, 2025 Posted October 14, 2025 Chants? Great. Songs? Great. Lazy chants to the same tune for multiple wrestlers? Fuck off. Quote
Paid Members Supremo Posted October 14, 2025 Paid Members Posted October 14, 2025 I think the Boney M singalongs are here to stay. Pro-wrestling fans being Pavlovian? WHAT? Driving shit into the ground for decades on end? WHAT? Overall though, I thought the Australian crowd were great. Loud, rowdy, and yet fully engaged with the product. The problem with the British and European crowds this year has been that they’re seemingly only there for a singalong. They were otherwise crap. Check out the booing of the American National Anthem. Amazing they thought this was a good idea. Show that on Unreal, you cowards. Triple H (probably dressed in this exact Nazi outfit), baffled by the reaction. Quote

Another thing that has absolutely come from UK crowds and can be solely blamed on football fans, as everything can to be fair Blame Spurs fans as I remember us having that for Danny, Dannnyyyyy Roooooooose at least 15 years ago. It's OK not to like them, just don't sign up to the Fan Fun Police. These fans for example really annoy Triple Paul. Quote

Much as I would love to blame Spurs (as per), I'm fairly sure I heard that at a Celtic game in the mid-00s, so it might go even further back. Definitely needs to go the way of the "1 fall!" thing in terms of tropes from the UK that migrated into wrestling on a wider scale and should now die a death. Quote

Paid Members JLM Posted October 14, 2025 Paid Members Posted October 14, 2025 (edited) Yeah we had it for Harry Kewell at Liverpool in 2004-ish. I’ve always found that one to be the most acceptable iteration of it though, as his name fits the song better than any other version I’ve heard. I find Seven Nation Army chants more annoying than Boney M chants. Edited October 14, 2025 by JLM Quote
WyattSheepMask Posted October 14, 2025 Posted October 14, 2025 (edited) “I love how fans are so creative with their chants”- are they bollocks. Someone stumbles on a good one and then it gets run into the ground and sticks around for years even after that point. One that genuinely made me laugh the first time I heard it was on a Progress show where Ilya Dragonov got one based around his ‘Unbesiegbar’ moniker to the tune of ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’. Proper Be Sharps stuff- witty at first, but became less funny each time you heard it, especially when it was done 8 or 9 times in the space of 20 minutes. The best song/chant goes to Hull KR players Kalepi Tanganoa, who gets his name worked into ‘Do The Conga’ and James Batchelor being worked into Shakira - Waka Waka (This Time For Africa). Seen America getting shitty about some of our chants- they've got no understanding of Aussie culture. There's no real malice in "Asuka is a shit cunt" chant, it's the Aussie equivalent of chanting "asshole". Seen that apparently they cut the whole "Seth is a wanker" thing off Netflix too. Although we fully meant the booing of the US anthem. Many are quick to make it a huge political issue, but for most sitting in my section, it was as simple as "WTF mate, we're not America!" Also it's definitely fuck the Saudis all day. Putting aside the swears and anti-Saudi stuff, I think otherwise the Aussies have proven ourselves in the upper echeleon of wrestling crowds with our energy. Sadly wasn't able to stay for Raw, needed to get back for work and my little brother's 18th birthday, but in sitting down to watch some of Raw tonight, it sure seems like RAC Arena in Perth brought it for a third and final night. If any match could get away with "let's spam a million different finishers and kick out" it's the "we don't need a story" last ever Cena vs. AJ match. Just insane fun, a love letter to the last 20 years of wrestling that both Cena and AJ's influences have spanned. Loved AJ's TNA gear. Loved Cena's intro for Styles. Wish Uncle Allen gave the Spiral Tap one more go but we couldn't have it all. Loved Crown Jewel overall. Hot crowd the whole way and the show delivered IMO. Also, worth noting the amount of Aussie independent talent across that weekend in Perth. Highlighted by the big EPW show on Sunday night, which had Rhea, Buddy, Grayson, Dom, Bayley, Bronson and Otis in attendance. The last match of Davis Storm. The original TMDK back in Perth. Plus they did a good amount of WWE extra work- they were plants in the front row for the Priest/Black fireball spot on Smackdown, Frankie B was a medic there, Ricky South and Tome Filip were belt holders for Crown Jewel. And Bayley gave a little shoutout to the Dropouts (Tuckman and Scott Green) by doing their signature taunt during her Raw tag match- she must've been really impressed by them at the EPW show! So I’ll admit fault on this and say that I wasn’t quoting/referencing anybody’s point on here, that’s my fault for not making it clear. What I was getting at (and doing so poorly) was that this would be a point that you used to see when wrestlers were asked about working in front of certain crowds, specifically UK crowds. Quote

Punk finally getting the climax of his feud with Rollins for the big belt, and it's only possible to watch on the Peacock app. Amazing. Anyway, finally watched Cena vs Styles. It wasn’t terrible, but there was a bit of a missed opportunity for me - when Cena used Sister Abigail’s Kiss on AJ which was how Styles lost a WWE title Elimination Chamber to Bray, it felt a bit Kings Road, and they would have had a better story if they’d kept to moves that they thought might be each other’s Kryptonite. Styles using the RKO because Cena lost titles to it, for example. Of course, what might have been a strong finish was ruined somewhat by Cole going “Rest! In! Peace!” in time with the three count in that way that gives away, he knows it’s the end so we know it’s the end too. Exactly the same as “Finish! The! Story!” at Mania 40, total white dogshit. I hate Cole with a passion, he’s a personification of when Hunter said they’re the movie about the pretend sport, not the sport - Cole simply MUST think of a clever way to add to “the performance” with a witty sign off to the count instead of calling it like a real sport commentator would, like there’s always doubt until the ref counts 3.
