As a non-American kid who started watching wrestling in late 1987, I just couldn’t connect with some bald guy waving an American flag and walking out to over-the-top patriotic music. It honestly did nothing for me.

I totally get why American kids were into that kind of jingoistic hype - but what always puzzled me was how Hulk Hogan also managed to resonate with kids outside the U.S.

For me, Randy Savage was the man.

I think we've covered this elsewhere before but it really was the perfect storm of Reagonomics, the US wanting to be proud of something/themselves after the 70s/Vietnam, and also displaying their power to the rest of the world, especially Eastern Europe.

Hogan was the physical embodiment of all of that.

For sure he said some awful things in later life and outed himself to be a fairly unlikeable bloke.

From a Wrestling perspective, Real American will always make the hair on the back of my neck stand up, transporting me back to being a young kid completely obsessed with Wrestling, and i don't think that will ever leave me.

Just watching the Sky News report. They went live to their correspondent in Washington who gave us all a run down of Hulk Hogans career….

He worked for World Wide Entertainment

He retired from wrestling in 1993 to make the movies Rocky III, No Holds Barred, Suburban Commando and Mr Nanny as well as the TV shows Hogan Knows Best and Hogans Main Event

He tried to make a wrestling comeback after that but it failed  

He is one of the reasons Donald Trump was re-elected

I started watching in 91 and I totally didn't get it. I understood American kids liking it but for me nah. Warrior was the man, a grade A cunt too, and then in 92 I thought Hart was cool as fuck.
