Three of our most important players and Fally Mayulu sold on the cheap as their deals were out, four more on expiring deals (two of which are regular starter) and the noise is only a CB coming in, which is not by any means a done deal. On top of that, last Friday our owner had a right whinge about not being appreciated just four hours before our worst game in many years against Derby County which could have ended up a cricket score. Our gaffer has got some polite digs in at the upper management so it's not 100% certain he'll see the season out, so going from a promotion push to a relegation fight isn't off the table. Gotta love the Championship, huh. Quote

The comparisons with Torres are pretty good, when he gets away from defenders and into anything resembling a one-on-one, forget it. You're just hoping he misses, and he usually doesn't. It worked with Suarez and Carroll. We’re unbalanced and Slot may or may not be very good but there’s the foundations of a brilliant team somewhere amongst those players. Quote

In some ways it's miraculous that you're in the top 5 and have avoided a Champions League play-off considering how many players are out of form. The drop-off with Mac Allister, Konate and Salah especially has been amazing. Getting by on Ekitike, Szoboszlai and Alisson alone. Quote

You'd think any up-and-coming new manager coming in to a club with a proven track record of success (especially compared to Moyes second division title with Preston, and an FA Cup final with Everton) might think that he could learn something from the existing coaching staff. But instead he decides they all have to go so he can give jobs to his mates from Everton, and I can't be bothered to check every sing;e one of their records to see what they've won but I'm guessing their record is as threadbare as his. No big, mega money panic buys, no Peter Odemwingie-esque drama, no last minute jaw dropping moves. Is it just a case that teams are much more organised these days, so have their ducks in order earlier, meaning they dont have to/are unwilling to pay the premium that has historically cost to take players in the winter window? No surprise that the biggest deal yesterday was a signing that won't be completed until the summer so, the cost goes into next year's balance sheet. Lots of other clubs who I'm sure would have thrown some money around if they could. Newcastle most obviously. Also, with the bottom 2 being so wretched this season and West Ham looking a bit sunk, I don't think there was a real reason for Forest and Leeds, for instance, to go and panic buy. If West Ham were 5 points closer, I think all 3 would have thrown something at it. Then, as you say, there's a lot more pragmatism to transfers now. Man City signed two players they've had an eye on for ages, one because he had a release clause and the other because it avoided a scrap in the summer when he was free. Bournemouth signed a few but, they'll have all been well watched. Palace taking Strand Larsen was the only one that had a good old whiff of desperation about it. Quote

What happens if you sign 3 or 4 players in the January window (stop laughing) without considerable outgoings, and then those injured players come back (I said stop laughing) All of a sudden you have a massive, bloated squad, so it really makes no sense to just sign players for the sake of it. Shame we haven't been able to land Akliouche but only because I dream of a team of all attacking midfielders. If it was up to me I'd play Maddison, Kulusevski, Simons AND Akliouche if we sign him and everyone is fit. No defending, just vibes. Quote
