Their anger at the refereeing decisions was perfectly understandable, but that sort of behaviour just can't be condoned. Good that they've won the trophy, but there should be some sort of fine. And much credit to Mane for being a complete pro and helping get them back on the pitch. Some chatter that El Hadji Diouf, of all people, might have helped to make peace and rescue the situation. As it is, it was a gorgeous goal to win the tournament with. I hope Brahim Diaz doesn't suffer too much from the penalty miss - poor guy looked completely headfucked. Briefcase Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Great game full of DRAMA but not cool walking off the pitch for 20 minutes, should be punished otherwise every team will be doing that to delay the game or put off the penalty taker when things don't go their own way I would have let the penalty be taken and if the keeper isn't in goal and is in the dressing room with the rest of the team then so be it, although Diaz would have still probably missed anyway. See, I was leaning towards being charitable and wondering if it was simply that he'd just been psyched out and messed up by the febrile atmosphere of the situation, but Kachloul and Mikkel were criticising him for attempting a Panenka. There was even a point where I was wondering if he'd deliberately fluffed it in order to defuse the bad feeling in the arena, but it seems very unlikely; plus the commentators were saying no professional player would ever have done that. However, even if it is the case that he was just being arrogant, I still feel bad for him - he's probably getting dog's abuse from all quarters right now. Quote

That commentator was an absolute disgrace saying that he could've missed on purpose by the way. A genuinely disgusting thing to say in that moment, publicly saying that he could've missed it deliberately and then pussying out with "that's the question that will be asked on social media!" I couldn't believe what he was saying. Anyway, player linked with Spurs has chance to win the whole tournament in front of home fans, and fluffs it. I've seen enough, bring him in, proper COYS. Quote

Briefcase Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Match fixing, dodgy penalties and dramas aside it was refreshing to watch a game of football (final as well) without low blocks, mid blocks, passing in midfield for 10 minutes to control the game and counting on long throws and corners. Felt like both teams allowed their players to be themselves in an open game and it was still a close score. Quote

Martin O’Neill seems to have a much better grasp on the limitations of his squad, and to me they’re either most likely option to win the league; especially given the injuries Hearts are now dealing with. It’s a shame that WBA are in the position they’re in and I hope this works out for them. I’ve had a soft spot for the club dating back to the years Steve Clarke was your boss. Paid Members tiger_rick Posted January 21 Paid Members Posted January 21 The Championship is always mad but the fact that the teams directly above the relegation zone are Norwich, Blackburn, WBA, Sheff United, Charlton and Southampton with Leicester in trouble if their points deduction comes into play and Swansea also around them but looking fairly safe. All clubs with PL pedigree at one point, many very recently, really struggling. In the top 6, you've got Ipswich who you'd expect to be good but otherwise a mass of teams punching above their weight, including my Tigers having a fucking excellent season against the odds, and a ridiculous pile up just outside the play-offs with 6 teams separated by 1 point. If Leicester don't get a points deduction then they're only 5 points off 6th and looking up. It's the greatest league in the world. Quote

Partly because Forest spent so long stinking the division up (and we're in with a shout of returning there next season), but also because, as mentioned above, the league is absolutely mental. From promotion candidates one year to fighting for your Championship life the next; it is batshit crazy. Given the choice, I always watch a second tier game in the week than a Champions League fixture. Wrexham v Leicester last night was a cracker (well, the second half at least). Whilst I don't obviously want us to take the drop, I do miss a Wednesday night 7:45 kick-off, as I do the regularity of a 3pm Saturday fixture, of which we have had just one this season (admittedly due to the Europa). Would absolutely love to see Coventry, PNE, and god love me, even Millwall come up this year. Quote

I mostly watch them and Spurs and this season has felt like a bloody punishment of some sorts, more so than usual. Southampton are ridiculous. They've won 8 games this season but 6 of those came in pretty much a month when they won 6 out of 7 after Tonda Eckert took charge (4 out of 5 while he was caretaker). They looked like they'd go catch 2nd at that point with form like that. They've made some "interesting" transfers over the last couple of years but still have a squad full of players who've done great in the Championship for years and players suited to the way they want to play and did play successfully under Russell Martin a couple of season's ago. They also appointed a massively sought after manager who suited them too. There's no obvious weakness there at all. Quote
