I’ll be a bit gutted if Arsenal go through a period of dominance playing the way they do. They’re by far the best team in the league at the moment and they’ve figured out the algorithm of grinding out results and flat track bullying perfectly but they’re a bit grim. Still, it’s a devils choice between the cheats playing nice footy and winning and Arsenal doing it the ‘right way’ and winning ugly. Meanwhile Slot has abandoned whatever mad Dutch shit he was trying to do with us and has us doing a shit version of Arsenal whilst we find our feet again. We’re on the world’s most depressing ten game unbeaten run. I still think he might be toast at the end of the season unless he wins the European cup or something. It would take more than a top 4 finish I think. Quote

What that period where Arsenal sat back and let you knock it between your centre backs and midfield? Yeah, terrific that. Exhilarating. Football is of course cyclical and this boring set piece bollocks can only go on for so long before a new trend comes along but it is so grim. And yeah it works for some teams so fair play. In fairness, Arsenal to some degree (and I'm not saying it's the only reason) are playing that way out of necessity, because everyone else is playing this low block bollocks. In games where teams have come out and tried to actually play we've been more expansive, but just being expansive in the past has led to claims the team have a soft underbelly because they couldn't play a more physical, route one style when needed. So there's no winning in terms of perception, so we might as well do whatever works to go for actually winning, or not losing at least. Hard to argue with results so far this season, but I still feel that City will be there and thereabouts in May, possibly even pipping Arsenal if they go on a massive run. Quote

I must see some post every week going on about how that Liverpool team who finished 2nd on 97 points and then were pissing the league before the world shut down won a "Covid title" - whatever that means. Then they obviously only won last year because of VAR or something. Man City's all conquering teams were boring. Man United's all-conquering teams only won because Fergie made ref's watches stop. Arsenal won two league titles playing offside and winning 1-0. Etc, etc. Quote

And also it's not singling one team out, it's all bad in my opinion. You can say that there are good stories in the league and there are, Brentford being the best example, but compare last night's match, champions vs probable champions. Compare that to the absolute mayhem of the Pep City vs Klopp Liverpool games and they're like a different game. I don't like it, and added to the wider killing of the game, its all just a big...bleh. But the only thing that matters is who ends up on top at the end of the season, and regardless of whether the standard is very poor in a particular year, or there is covid (both very bizarre excuses used by people I have to say) that's the only measure that matters. Anyway, FA Cup 3rd Round this weekend. No way they could drain the excitement from that is there 🙃 Quote
