There's a great irony in the company that's relied on nostalgia for so long turning a legend people grew up with heel.

I don't think it's hard to come up a better story than the one they've tried to tell but at the same time they were never going to get the whole audience on board with it.

You know that Treehouse of Horrors episode where Bart can read people's minds and teleports Homer to the football stadium? The way everyone's sucking HHH off at the hall of fame and this preshow is really reminding me of that.

I'm expecting him to turn Michael Cole into a jack in the box any minute now.

WWE has acquired AAA and announced World's Collide for June.

It's exciting personally, with the Netflix days ahead, anything under the streaming banner with WWE/TKO money input should be a boost overall for the industry.

I think WWE buying AAA is horrible news, regardless of how shite AAA is.

I hate the idea of WWE buying up all these companies and ending up with NXT Mexico and NXT Japan. All wrestling everywhere being the same cookie cutter boring WWE style of wrestling. I don't think it's a good thing for the industry at all.

WWE don't give a shit about the industry, they want to be the only game in town and for all other wrestling to die.

Shit news but I don't see them ever getting hold of a major Japanese promotion.

Maybe they'll try and buy Marigold from Rossy Ogawa, and he'll immediately go running to another Japanese corporation.

I really don't care about this news at all but Stephanie Vaquer in a tie, so I'm glad this has happened.

Under Vince maybe, but Triple H has been far more keener to work with other promotions since taking full charge, as shown with the TNA partnership and working with GCW and FSW for their ID tournament this week, than Vince did for the last 30 years of his tenure

Based off the last few years I'd expect more either CyberFight, or that they acquire NOAH off CyberFight.

I can understand why people think it's dreadful news, but more companies being financially secure and more people having confirmed work is a good thing for me. Of course they could go down the route of NXT Mexico or Japan but you'd hope they learned their lesson that the branching out to the UK didn't really do much, whereas the current model of having wrestlers under ID commitments and having bases in other areas hasn't caused too many issues so far.

You'd expect this also means they've acquired AAA footage archives (if they've been stored well).

A chance to see some more footage than what is already available online of things like Los Gringos Locos or more of Reys early work on streaming services or in documentary form is a cool concept for me.

It's Mania weekend and I'm sure the rose tinted glasses will fall off eventually, but it's a weekend/week where after so much negativity lately about products and output and ways forward, it finally seems a step in the right direction.

If you don't think Triple H and WWE want to be a monopoly then I don't know what to tell you.  That's the only reason for these partnerships, the same way NXTUK was an attempt to kill off the booming UK indie scene here. Which it did. The fact that it seemed like 80% of the UK wrestling scene were abusers and scumbags would have killed it eventually i'm sure but WWE got in there first. They were also worried about World of Sport.

We even have that photo pre pandemic of HHH in front of the screen with NXT logos all over the world like the Dads Army opening credits. That's what they want this to be.

the only reason you can still see tons of AAA from it's better and bigger age is because of the work fans have put in so fuck knows what their own archives are or what they look like

WWE purchasing AAA could pan out to be one of the worst things to happen to wrestling in years, even if just for the precedent it sets. But for lots of other reasons beyond that.

But the fucking gall of Triple H and Michael Cole to talk up how important they were for creating stars by pointing to the Garzas, who can't buy a push in WWE, and Andrade and Santos Escobar, who both may as well be in witness protection, and to talk about the significance of the original When Worlds Collide show without even getting the name right. Really fills you with promise, doesn't it?

Vikingo working the gimmick and Andrade mean mugging the camera too..... But yeah Vaquer in a tie. And double denim Rey, come on man surely he looks the bollocks in a suit?

Despite everything AAA still had a bit of a relationship with Disney/Marvel with the characters and show on Disney+.

Instead of falling under the Netflix roof I can see this as a way of generating additional revenues. Same way Evolve was brought back for the tubi deal & only on YouTube internationally. Speaking of which both Evolve/ID gives them cheap talent to funnel to AAA.

Noah or AJPW might be next. The currency being so low makes them an easier target but the distance and touring model might not make it that appealing.
