WWE and Trump

Well, yeah. Trump isn't doing rallys at the moment, and nobody's suggested it was one. But that doesn't mean it wasn't a Trump event or it was somehow a surprise that he was involved. 

Part of the celebrations involve a military parade on Trump's birthday (at Trump's insistence). The entire thing has been co-opted. And it's all over the news how controversial this was. 

The main event was Trump speaking for 50 minutes in front of his supporters in the military, telling them they wouldn't have turned up for Biden, and that he's restoring confederate names for army bases. 

And those involved were told they could opt out if they didn't support Trump. 

Personally, I think this was all a weird thing for Cody to want to be part of as a result. And it's a choice of optics.

It wasn't.

It was a planned celebration of the military, and Trump's section was hours after the WWE wallies left.

I'm not saying it's not a bit iffy, I'm not even saying Cody isn't a Trump guy (I'm sure he is), I'm just pointing out that the story isn't 'Cody Rhodes unilaterally decides as a private citizen to warm up crowd at Trump event', it's 'WWE as a company send 4 stars, including Cody Rhodes, to celebrate military at event also attended by President Trump'.

People can debate the appropriateness of that all they like, but it's a bit less sexy a story than has been presented.

Probably worth considering that the American general public are often quite bipartisan about the military in way that seems unfathomable here and any chance to be seen as "patriotic" will be seen as good PR in their key market for TKO.

I feel like having their representatives appearing at that event is very much about those optics rather than the optics of whether Trump is also appearing and any endorsement that can be inferred by doing so. Also makes for a nice bit of footage to chuck on TV this week.

They're probably all raging MAGA cunts, but I don't suspect that's part of the equation for WWE in terms of why they've had their stars appear here.

Part of the original appeal of wrestling was that it was this thing that was semi mainstream but you'd watch it by yourself because everyone else thought it was for blithering fucking idiots. You're sitting there watching King Mabel vs Diesel and going "they just dont get it, man. This is better than Juventus vs AC Milan." So to see this company court mainstream acceptance and be in bed with TKO and the Trump Administration really bugs me for more reasons than the obvious ones.

I'm done watching WWE. I mean, I've been in and out for years, and if there's a big show that interests me, I'll stream it. But gone are the days of putting money in their pocket. Admittedly, It helps that WWE is so lame. Its all LEDs and sponsors visually, and everyone looks a shell of their former selves. Punk and Cena were rotten. They are two of the best wrestlers and mic workers of all time, and they still are at times. Yet more often than not, you see them now and its like seeing Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair in the Impact Zone doing their old lines.

Paul Levesque and Stephanie McMahon are absolute frauds. They dont have a original thought in their heads and are still controlled by Daddy, even though he hasnt spoke to either of them in the last 18 months. Although it is great to see them both so job scared these days. TKO is 1000% getting rid of both of them eventually. And WWE will be moved to Vegas. Nick Khan doesnt even go to WWE HQ anymore.

Nick Khan really was the chosen child, wasn't he? I wonder how long it was when Vince decided that he should be the true heir, everything from the sale has been pushed to have that happen while Vince starts a new company that I'll imagine is far closer in friendship to WWE than expected.

Probably realised as soon as Khan helped negotiate those billion dollar TV deals. That's why he was headhunted from the talent agency job he had. Vince saw the $$$ and it was an easy choice between a license to print money with Nick Khan or spending a fortune on indie filler for the network & the NXT expansion under Paul & Stephanie.

I saw a clip of him standing next to Trump. Who clearly couldn’t be bothered to learn how to pronounce Levesque and called him Triple H. Quick squeeze of the muscles like he was Purple Aki.

Hunters face was a picture when Trump was being asked about Epstein/Virginia Giuffre. Sure hes heard about sex trafficking a lot recently, but even he looked baffled at Trumps response.
