It’s not like he’s Meltzer, Keller’s track record is pretty good - and he clearly has his sources in AEW. Moxley did his first post-WWE interview with the guy, remember? I think it’s pretty much certain that Keller has been told this, but it’s obviously impossible to verify. If only AEW had some kind of post-PPV press conference at which these questions could be asked, eh? Quote

Which, if true, may explain why Jon Moxley’s AEW takeover has been similarly unsuccessful, and rather half-arsed. That would make a lot of sense. I mean, it makes no sense, because why would you keep putting over this angle without them having any influence whatsoever? But, I don't think Tony is an idiot. Tony being an egotist makes much more sense. Quote
Paid Members LaGoosh Posted January 4, 2025 Author Paid Members Posted January 4, 2025 Stories where wrestlers have power to book matches never make any sense. Why wouldn't they just book their enemies in 10 vs 1 handicap matches every week, for example. It's always rubbish and falls apart. And it's never clear how much their in power extends. Like when Triple H/Stephanie were booking The Rock in a handicap match against the New Age Outlaws were they also booking Hardcore Holly vs Viscera on the undercard? Quote
Paid Members Supremo Posted January 4, 2025 Paid Members Posted January 4, 2025 The most annoying thing about the EVP angle was that the End Game was right there. Literally all they had to do was put up The Elite’s, “power,” against Tony’s, “power,” in Blood and Guts. Winner takes all. Would have taken Excalibur or Schiavone ten seconds to mention it, saving us months of bullshit and giving everything a satisfying conclusion. The Young Bucks could have lost, moved on, and just continued being wrestlers on the show, participating in storylines that don’t revolve around meta bullshit. Going forward, both companies should put an immediate ban on any storyline involving power, company control, shit you need an Observer Subscription to understand or fighting over the soul of the promotion. Frankly, we didn’t realise how good we once had it. Quote

It's like when a meglomaniac super villain finally conquers the world and realises how much fucking paperwork and mundance shit is involved. Congrats you've finally won the heavyweight title.... but what do you mean I've got to keep the rating of Sunday Night Heat above a certain level? Quote

I would have WAY MORE interest in that scenario than "serious black tshirt heel group" take over. Its always annoys me when a wrestling show gets a new authority figure in and nothing actually changes. Throw in some different philosophies for duck sake. Quote

Paid Members Hannibal Scorch Posted January 4, 2025 Paid Members Posted January 4, 2025 I was out for lunch earlier and my mate said he wasn’t impressed with Jarrett’s announcement of wanting a title run. So I gave him my booking/reasoning. Jeff made an emotional promo about going in for the Owen Tournament last year, ultimately losing to eventual winner, Bryan Danielson. He gets a title shot against Mox on a future Dynamite (he wins an eliminator or royale or something). He gets obliterated. Knowing the Owen gives him a title shot at All In he knows it’s his last opportunity, he barely wins his matches, but the unlikely hero wins, and calls in his shot at All In Texas. He loses, but in a hard fought match (I don’t think it’s Mox). Quote

Paid Members LaGoosh Posted January 5, 2025 Author Paid Members Posted January 5, 2025 (edited) Finally finished Dynamite. I didn't love it. Solid but unexciting and often dull. The only segment I really enjoyed was The Acclaimed vs Hurt Syndicate. I love it when a segment achieves multiple things at once. This one was a brilliant showcase of the Hurt Syndicate, gave us Caster being beaten up which everyone loves and pushed along The Acclaimed split. Bowens dropping off the apron but not actually fully leaving was a nice touch. This story has been really good and natural. Feels like two friends naturally falling out rather than your typical wrestling split. The Ricochet stuff...I don't know. As a sole angle it was good on its own merits but it feels too soon. Ricochet has only been this new lame, geeky heel character for a few weeks. I would have liked things to slowly escalate to him snapping rather than going straight to the psycho scissor stabbing. I didn't feel engaged with this at all really. They've got into this habit where the show a promo/vignette then cut to a shot of the roof of the building while Excalibur introduces the next promo then they cut to it. It drives me fucking crazy - it's just dead air. Just cut straight to the next thing! Hangman/OC was a pretty big letdown. Nothing wrong with it necessarily but didn't get past "ok" territory. Sad that they've burned that match now for pretty much nothing. Mercedes doing a promo to introduce a vignette - either do a promo or a vignette why makes us suffer through both? The show looked very crisp - have they updated their production for MAX? So yeah overall, I was a bit disappointed with it but hopeful that with Omega coming back they can get cracking with some more exciting stuff soon. This year needs to be the year of Willow Nightingale as far as I'm concerned. Edited January 5, 2025 by LaGoosh Quote

It drives me fucking crazy - it's just dead air. Just cut straight to the next thing! There is a reason for this and its based in the way wrestling has traditionally been shot on TV. All of the promotions who have been on TV successfully have done the bit where the commentary team does an intro for the next thing, and they usually do it over crowd shots. When AEW was struggling with ticket sales they stopped using the crowd shot and just started shooting the roof because they still had to get the intro in. I don't know what the ticket sales were like for Dynamite but it doesn't seem to matter so much now, they always seem to just shoot the roof. It is as you say annoying, but it's never going away it seems. Quote
