Paid Members TheBurningRed Posted January 2, 2025 Paid Members Posted January 2, 2025 Cope is an absolute shite name and nothing could convince me otherwise. Show worth watching at all? As for the theme I hope someone has told @Astro Hollywood Quote

As for the theme I hope someone has told @Astro Hollywood Aye it was a good first week of TV in a new year. We ended the 2024 thread rightly in a bit of a mood and hoped it'd pick up a bit so it's a good enough episode. COPE!!! Quote
Olly1984 Posted January 2, 2025 Posted January 2, 2025 Decent episode to start the new year. Not really to sure why commentary where acting like Ricochet had just randomly attacked Swerve without any motive, he humiliated him on PPV but he now has a pair of giant gold scissors so can't grumble?, wonder if he got them out of a Christmas Cracker! Joking aside he's actually realised no one gave a shit about his babyface, dull as fuck run and now has genuine heat, long may it continue Quote
Paid Members BomberPat Posted January 2, 2025 Paid Members Posted January 2, 2025 it was very funny to see him announced as COPE, and then the audience all started chanting "Let's Go Adam". Quote

They've done this a few times with people, where they've got a few months out of the goodwill they get out of turning up, get a few good matches out of them, then set up their new character going forward. Him debuting with it would have been too much of a jump - this way has worked really well. It's also part of AEW's biggest plus and minus - booking PPV to PPV. You can see the parts being put into play each time, and it can mean course-correction can take time. But you end up with a pretty broad balance of good shows with plenty of variety, even when they're clustered. Quote

Especially when they secured the, “Rated R Superstar,” copyright. “Cope,” absolutely reeks of ex-WWE star showing up in the Impact Zone in late 2000s. You can almost hear poor Mike Tenay trying to make it work. Cope is clearly short for Copeland, maybe his mates all call him that anyway. Just have people refer to him as Cope, everyone except the commentators, and see if it catches on. It doesn't need a "HE'S CALLED COPE NOW". They've never needed to announce Jon Moxley is called MOX. Everyone just calls him Mox. Organic. Normal. Very, un-wrestling. Loved the intro. Felt fresh for 2025. I'd also really like them to match up new intro tunes with the themed episodes. Really enjoyed Dynamite. I miss their brilliant babyface episodes they'd build to regularly. This felt like one. There was still plenty of heat underneath for Hangman and Trev but it was a show that needed to feel good in the end and the whole Fallen theme, Hurricane relief charity stuff and that main felt like a great babyface show. Love everyone lining up to get a shot at Mox. Especially with the gauntlet coming up. Title feels like a big deal. Mox feels like a big deal. These guys who are all championship calibre feel like a big deal. Good stuff. Will say the Jeff Jarrett promo was good but too out of the blue. That's their weakness. Undisputed NXT Vanilla Midgets can really, really do one. Quote

He's preferred 'MOX' as a ring-name to Jon Moxley for years. I think it's more that we all just got used to it. I reckon the COPE thing will be something we get used to as well. Quote

I just can't think of anytime they didn't call him Jon Moxley in any official capacity. "Mox" is clearly a nickname. I'd have gone that route here. Maybe they will. Quote
TheScarlettChad Posted January 2, 2025 Posted January 2, 2025 I'll never COPE with calling Adam Copeland COPE Quote

wordsfromlee Posted January 2, 2025 Posted January 2, 2025 Of course Cope is a shite name. Did you expect anything better? The guy used to be called Edge for fucks sake. Quote
