Because they turned the Continental Championship into just yet another belt, it feels like a waste of energy entering the Classic. Why go through seven gruelling matches to win the title when you could just hang on a month until it’s over and get yourself a direct title shot instead?

I'd be signing up because its 5 weeks of TV in a row and a PPV appearance. Which is a minor miracle for everyone besides Jericho :)

There's 12 people in it. The title is defended once a month if their lucky. Even if someone waits it out for an opportunisitic shot once the tournament is over. How exactly is someone getting this direct title instead?

Eddie Kingston is unlikely to be back until June, reports say. Might as well just put all wrestling on hold until then to be honest.

I reckon Tony’s already licensed U2’s, “Beautiful Day,” for the big return montage.

All roads should lead to Eddie Kingston as World Champion when he comes back. For a company endlessly resetting and trying to find something that works, he’s been under their nose the whole time. He’s the guy. Has been ever since that first Moxley promo. Give him that belt so he can hand it to his mother.

Also, we know there’s a ‘nobody at ringside’ rule but have we seen / been told what happens if anyone breaks that rule? Is it an honour system thing or is there actual punishment if, say, Moxley decided to just beat the shit out of Darby during his match instead of not doing anything even after the end of Full Gear because he’d done his segment for the week?

Last year I remember them talking about fines and suspensions in those cases.

I can actually answer that problem with another problem. The continental championship is completely worthless outside of the C2. All it does is signify that you've won it, which obviously Okada hasn't, so him winning it accomplished nothing. No one should, and barely anyone does, challenge for that belt.

I'm actually OK with that route for the Continental Championship.

If we quietly forget it was ever a viable, defended championship and serves as a visible representation that you won the tournament last year (and guarantees you an entry to "defend" it next time around) that's all good.

"Meltzer on the crowd reactions to Jericho v Ishi: “It’s the reality of AEW, the same thing on the pay-per-view. If this match was at an AEW show, one year ago even, the people would’ve gone crazy for the match, from the start. But now they have to work so hard to get the crowd going."

Yeah...or everyone's just sick to death of Chris Jericho. AEW seriously need to work out a plan to transition Jericho away from singles act to comedic secondary character.

I feel like I hammer the point of "why can't this company remember that they have Trios championships?" every single week, but it's something that would solve so many of their problems, particularly Jericho.

He's in a Trio that never compete in Trios matches, and have never even expressed an interest in Trios Titles. But they feuded with a makeshift Trio of Hook, Samoa Joe, and Shibata, and since then have been feuding with various members of The Conglomeration. Wouldn't it be better if, instead of that leading to a succession of bad Jericho singles matches and bad Jericho title reigns, they were built around the kind of chaotic, fun multi-man tags that AEW actually does really well, which would give the Trios titles some purpose, and hide a lot of Jericho's weaknesses by not expecting him to carry the whole match?

Would they have gone crazy a year ago?

I mean they wheel out Ishii fairly regularly. He doesn't really do much. I feel like he loses quite a lot too. So while Jericho is a lot of the problem, putting him in there with an opponent most people don't give a shit about isn't going to help either.

Saddest part of the show was them showing Darby and Brodie’s history and every clip saw the buildings getting progressively emptier and darker.

I’d take a Hammerstein residency if it meant we could turn the lights back on.

They had more or less the same match, only better, two years ago, and it got a decent reaction. At that point, Ishii was still a bit of a special attraction, and Jericho hadn't completely pissed away whatever goodwill he had. They were never going to recapture that with Jericho at the absolute nadir of his career, and Ishii starting to physically fall apart and becoming part of the furniture booking-wise to the point that he's the fifth most important member of a stable that has Rocky Romero in it.

Is Hook dead? He's completely vanished and in the middle of a story with Christian Cage no less. Weird.

I've been wondering about this. He got involved in a match killing one of the patriarchy but we haven't seen him since.

I very much enjoyed Claudio and Ricochet looking pissed off at the chants.

Also, Jerichos shitty desk cover throw at Ishii that was sold like a chair shot! Did Jericho have a blood pack in his mouth at this bit too? He was looking like a hamster.
