Paid Members LaGoosh Posted December 6, 2024 Paid Members Posted December 6, 2024 I think they managed to just about get away constant stop/start pushes, dropping of stories and people disappearing for no reason for weeks/months when the good stuff was really landing but the whole time it was causing long term damage in the back ground and now the chickens have come home to roost and it's massively hurt the roster, their reputation and fan goodwill. Now AEW is in the rut of anytime anything good happens or breaks through you just assume it'll be dropped or fucked up for no reason a few weeks later and it's hard to invest in a product when it has that vibe. I quite enjoy how Raw in particular is the complete opposite of this. Adam Pearce is scripted to really care about law and order, and yet the event he puts on is an absolute shit show, week in and week out. Attempted murders all over the shop. Within the fiction, his character must dread going to work. It must haunt him all week. Whatever you think of AEW’s problems, or how you think they can fix things, I think we can all agree that this is not the answer. Fuck all the way off with this shit. I’m so sick and tired of their rah rah speeches and acting like the perennial victim. It’s crazy how in less than five years we’ve seen them speed run from some of the best pro-wrestling TV of all time, to desperate, “STAND UP FOR WWE,” stuff. It’s the real reason Tony needs to get off Twitter. I don’t care about him being a shitposter. The mad, cocaine-fueled rants can actually be quite funny. But he clearly cannot handle the criticism. It leads to all this crybaby shit from the likes of Dax Harwood and it’s resulted in AEW itself being the main character on the show. Everyone is fighting for THE SOUL OF AEW and banging on about how AEW SAVED MY LIFE. Bore off. Fight for Championships again. And because you want to be the champion, not because the belt itself holds some imaginary power of the TRULY BRILLIANT AEW PLEASE STOP BULLYING US. Quote
Paid Members Carbomb Posted December 6, 2024 Paid Members Posted December 6, 2024 Not really relevant, but I do like how Dustin has evolved his look into this weird hybrid of Goldust, Darth Maul, Sub-Zero, and some variation of the Calavera. Quote
The King Of Swing Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 Outside of possibly the lowest effort battle royal in history, I enjoyed Dynamite a lot more than the last couple of weeks. Quote
Paid Members Supremo Posted December 8, 2024 Paid Members Posted December 8, 2024 (edited) Finally getting around to watching this week's episode, on balance, there was a lot to be encouraged by. Like the AEW of old, where they earnestly take on criticism and work towards fixing problems. A noticeably smaller building, with a more compact crowd, where they actually turned the lights up a bit! Lovely. Made everything look and sound far brighter and more vibrant. A huge improvement to the empty, echoey, pitch black arenas. Someone hid the fake tan from Adam Cole, with MJF even making reference to him looking jaundice. The whole thing is still a tedious mess, but baby steps are baby steps nonetheless. The sooner this MJF/Cole thing ends at Worlds End, the better for everyone. Cole has looked rubbish since returning, even without the tan. Maybe you tie the whole thing up by putting him in a Trios with Kyle and Roddy. I don't give a flying fuck about Undisputed Era nostalgia, but at least they can carry Cole until he hopefully gets his mojo back. Best use of Max Caster in at least a year. First time in forever his crap rap actually fit the act, great fun watching him get smashed to fuck, and Swerve looked absolutely boss. An instant return to form. you immediately forgot the big losses he took over the last few pay per views. Swerve rules. Kyle Fletcher continues to look great. It's the first time in a long, long time a Don Callis act feels like it's truly getting over. He needs to cycle off the gas though. He looks like when CM Punk first joined WWE and ballooned up, thinking that's what a top guy looks like. It just doesn't suit certain frames. He's only had about three matches and this is already the best run of Shelton's career. Love him as the Brock-style Super Athlete. Letting Chris Jericho think he’s really clever with a new catchphrase, but secretly using, “New York Minute,” to burn through another date of his contract with as little TV time as possible. Tony Khan with a late run for booker of the year! Masterful work. Kamille completely binned off, with Mercedes going in a new direction. Thank fuck for that. I don't have high hopes for the Anna Jay match, but I'll take this a million times over any more Triple H-style BICKERING. Hangman as a tweener! I'll take it. One step closer to the eventual babyface turn, him winning that belt back and us pretending everything that happened since he lost the title to Punk was just a dream. Orange Cassidy coming back feels like when they rushed Foley back for Wrestlemania 2000. It seemed clear they were going with Christian vs. Hangman vs. Jay White vs. Moxley at the pay per view, but thankfully they've seemingly realised it's the worst, most heel-heavy Four Way of all time, so have switched out Christian for Cassidy. I see their intent, but it's time to call it. Jay White isn't working as a babyface. He's talented, and he puts on, "good matches," but there's just nothing there in terms of wanting to cheer him or feeling sympathy for him. Frankly, I liked him and wanted to cheer him more when he was a goofy heel with the Collision Cowboys, messing around at the pool. This white meat version is rubbish. Fun, if unremarkable Meat Division knockabout in the main event. Nothing too offensive. Essentially, what I'm saying is that Tony Khan definitely lurks on this board. Tony. Hangman Adam Page, Babyface World Champion. This is the way. Imagine when the graphic flashes up, "Glad to have you back. Still proud of you - the graphics team." We'll all live happily ever after. Paid Members Hannibal Scorch Posted December 8, 2024 Paid Members Posted December 8, 2024 @LaGoosh as odd as it seems there’s a reason I just can’t take to Jay White, face or heel. He is a decent wrestler, don’t think he’s had a bad match I’ve seen. But the spittle, by god, it’s like Rick from Rick and Morty. Where does it all come from!?! Either way, it’s gross and I find it hard to like him. Quote
Chili Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 As a heel I really enjoyed Jay White and loved his stuff with Juice and The Gunns last year as this incredibly loud sugar filled bunch of annoying pricks and especially loved his Continental Classic run as a sneaky sod. But as a face, no, it's not clicked yet, even if his matches with Hangman were really entertaining. Quote

Paid Members WeeAl Posted December 10, 2024 Paid Members Posted December 10, 2024 Something that's really annoying me about this Continental Classic already this year. Every fucker is wearing some combination of black and gold. Fletcher, Benjamin, Mortos, Okada, Garcia, Claudio, Brody, Ospreay. I can't even remember who else is in it they all looked that similar. The King Of Swing Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 I've already forgotten who Kommander replaced. Quote

While you're definitely not wrong about the colour scheme I will say Mortos is a minotaur so perhaps doesn't like quite as similar as the rest of them... But sadly black has infested all of wrestling. Everyone is wearing black trunks and black t-shirts. A bit of colour goes a long way. If Benjamin is the gold standard he should wear gold. Ospreay seemed to be going with green as his look so needs to stick with it, likewise Garcia with red. Fletcher is really coming along as massive twat so shou;ld wear a colour that makes him look even more unlikeable. And so on so forth. Quote
