Seen them play it at the Octagon in Sheffield on The Seldom Seen Kid tour in 2008. That album is their last great hurrah for me, which is depressingly approaching its 16th anniversary.

I'd like to echo the sentiments of the good Doctor, Richard Hawley has an amazing voice. A few years ago he did a cover of Blue Christmas on Lauren Laverne's 6Music show. It is both incredible and unfindable. 

I'd also echo Flips love of Liz Frazer. What a voice that is. A sound like no other human.

Agreed. Leona Lewis has a voice that does that with any song.

From a technical and a versatility aspect , I have yet to hear anybody that is better than Mike Patton.

From Death Metal, Rap, Italian Swing music, he does it all effortlessly..

I 100% agree. I honestly think Mike Patton is the most accomplished vocalist I've ever heard, his range is amazing and he can (and has) literally turned his vocal to every genre of music and made it work. A true once in a generation voice.

This seems about as good a time as any to mention my long held belief that Angel Eyes by Wet Wet Wet sounds a bit like a Faith No More song (specially them doing Easy).

Jeff Buckley has an amazing voice. Grace is a heck of an album. 

Björk has an incredibly powerful voice. When I saw her at Glasto in 2007 she was pretty special. 

I'll echo the love of Michael Stipe and Freddie Mercury. George Michael has a heck of a voice as well. That version of Somebody To Love he did at The Freddie Mercury tribute concert is spectacular.

I really tried to hear it but no. I think it's just you, they have nothing in common other than the fact they are both rocky ballads. 

I can't understand a word of what Marti Pellow is saying. He's singing like he's got marbles in his mouth. Edit: he sounds more like Eddie Vedder!

I'll echo Michael Stipe, for sure. Trying to think of singers I love generally descends into making a list of people who sing sad lyrics that mean a lot to me. Julien Baker's a great example, and there are a couple below too. Stipe's a rare exception in that his words are often much more oblique, but still very affecting.

Not mentioned so far:

Jason Molina, of Songs:Ohia and Magnolia Electric Co. I can listen to this on repeat for ages.

And the wonderful Joni Mitchell. The way she sings, and the notes she reaches, while still making a song feel conversational and honest rather than performative or showy is just very rare.
