  1. * Skyflight is one of the worst stable names in wrestling history. * Schiavone saw Ciampa's gear and was like, "he looks like... someone straight out of a video game!". Excalibur and probably half the roster probably left crying in the back at the lack of detail on the call. Schiavone also said The Cut should stop saying "guns up!" and say "knives up!". It's gotta be "knives out!", surely. * Speaking of The Cut, I'm a Jay White fan, but they've been around for three shows and I'm already feeling fatigued. What an amorphous blob of indistinguishable guys. The Bang Bang Gang guys have Homered back into the hedge. I guess here's hoping they eke through Anarchy in the Arena and then start to take a better shape. Until then, though, it's probably all faceless mass brawls.
  2. It's mental to me that Darby is still the same guy he was when I stopped watching three years ago. And while usually that sentence might read as a bit of an indictment, I mean it as a compliment here. The act is the same. I know he's been the World Champ in the interim, but basically he feels like the same guy he was when AEW started and he's somehow not stale. Every match he's in, he somehow delivers something it feels like I've not seen before. Maybe it's a creative spot, maybe it's just the slight angle at which he takes a bump, but it's almost always something. He deserves a world of credit. It's crazy. How many guys in American wrestling have stayed babyface for seven years straight and not felt like a total drag at some point? I mean, I know guys have had longer babyface runs, but someone like Rey Mysterio, for example - there were long periods in which I was more than done with his act (despite his obvious ability). With Darby that's still not proven the case. Admittedly, it's possible I only feel this way because I wasn't watching for a fair while. Do you guys feel the same or have there been periods over these past few years that Darby's act has felt like it's been running on fumes?
  3. My last time watching Dragunov was on NXT:UK and I could never fully buy into him. In-ring, I always thought he was enjoyable enough, but almost everything else about his presentation reminded me of a little boy in his underpants playing at being a wrestler. Seeing him on this show, age has helped with that somewhat - he definitely looks a bit cooler - but I still wish he'd carry himself with more weight. I find the air-conducting deeply uncool and think it makes him look like a massive dork. Literally no better than when you see clips of people at the Air Guitar World Championship. If intensity is your thing, be intensely focused on your match and your opponent. Leave the air-conducting to fans and just try to look the business. If he doesn't, for me at least, he absolutely screams "relegated to The Conglomeration within a few months". Maybe an odd-couple tag-team with Orange Cassidy, seeing as they're basically inversions of each other (which I'm sure could be great fun, to be fair). I genuinely hope he's in the C2 and proves me wrong though.
  4. I'm really looking forward to this. Even though it's something I was desperate to see in a major US promotion for years, the C2 has so far coincided with my first and only ever lapsed period as a wrestling fan. In the three years between the first Wembley All In and the most recent one, I watched maybe five matches, while keeping only vaguely abreast of what was going on (who the main champs were in WWE and AEW, catching the odd viral promo etc). But since All In this year I've been back on the AEW train wholeheartedly, so this will be my first C2. I have a couple of questions though... Firstly, how much does it dominate television? Is there still plenty of time for other feuds and stories outside of it? I presume there's plenty of space allowed for the World, TNT and Tag title stuff? So in fantasy booking you'd leave most of the champs and immediate contenders out of the C2? Secondly, how do the guys who lose a lot tend to come out of this thing? Has it ever badly cooled someone?
