Awards Moderator HarmonicGenerator Posted June 23, 2024 Awards Moderator Posted June 23, 2024 Yeah, that was wonderful. I’d love him to win. As much as I’d also like Danielson or PAC to win, I’d be gutted if one of them beats Jeff in the final after that video. Quote

I guess the only thing left to decide is whether we stop at Double J winning the Own Tournament and then winning the World Title at All In, or if we keep going and he unifies all the belts. Good grief, Jeff Jarrett in an incredible guy, performer and personality. It almost sucks so bad knowing he's probably losing to the Wildcard because this is some incredible work here. He's being so genuine yet ties in the importance of the tournament at the end and it's so good that I now really want him to win even if the booking and what the Owen Hart winner gets it's completely against why Jeff Jarrett should win. Regardless, give us Danielson Vs Jarrett you shits. Even if it's on Rampage or Collision and they do a pure holiday camp fucking about match. Give us the goods for the sickos. Quote
The King Of Swing Posted June 23, 2024 Posted June 23, 2024 Incredible from Jarrett. Outside of that an alright episode with a couple of really boring/cold matches. Lady Frost is fast becoming a standout for me. Give her something meaningful to sink her teeth into. Luther constantly getting the fans going. Good stuff. Fucks sake I'd thought we'd been spared Hook and friends being sucked into the Jericho crap. Quote
Snitsky's back acne Posted June 23, 2024 Posted June 23, 2024 Well, fuck. Jeff Jarrett HAS to win the Owen tournament now, doesn't he? Quote

But I really fucking want him to. I don't know how anyone could watch that interview/promo, at least not the full, uncut version uploaded to YouTube, and not want Double J to go the distance. In saying that, I hope he at least has a good run. Hell, he could even make it to the finals, beating whoever the Wild Card is, then Jay White before falling to Danielson. Either way, I'll be watching his match on Wednesday, fully invested in seeing him win. Quote
Paid Members LaGoosh Posted June 24, 2024 Paid Members Posted June 24, 2024 (edited) It's a great bit of work and I absolutely love Jeff but he's not getting past the first round nor should he. The Wild Card is likely going to destroy him and this video is designed so the wild card gets a ton of heat when they do so. Jericho/Bill vs Private Party was an absolute low point for AEW. Private Party are in the exact same spot they were in 5 years ago with no sign of real improvement or forward momentum. Big Bill has real potential as a top act and is being wasted. The match was designed as build to a PPV match that no one wants to see (and is a waste of 3 other great talents). And for what? To service Chris Jericho, an act that is absolutely shitting up TV and damaging everyone he comes into contact with. Not a great show this week. Lots of good acts on the show but they were all mostly separated rather than actually directly interacting. HOOK, Joe and Shibata are great, they just need a team name and badass team music. HOOK should wear a black towel round his neck, as the other 2 wear towels and it'd be a nice little tribute to Taz. Edited June 24, 2024 by LaGoosh Quote
Paid Members Supremo Posted June 24, 2024 Paid Members Posted June 24, 2024 (edited) This Double J thing feels like an example of why you shouldn’t always listen to and placate the bad faith grifters online. Loads of idiots were moaning about Jeff being in the tournament when it was announced on Wednesday, and that video felt like a direct response. Here’s the very real, obvious reasons as to why he’s in the tournament, so shuttupayaface. The only problem is that the reason is so strong, and Jeff was so great at delivering it, that it’s now gone the other way and a first round knock out feels like a waste. I still expect it, but I hope they keep it classy and give him the artificial standing ovation afterwards. I still wouldn’t be against a more competitive run though. Would it really be the end of the world if he made it to the finals? Once again though, this just proves that Jeff is fucking great and could have a much larger regular role. I’m not saying he deserves a Sting-level send off, but there is absolutely space in this company for a nice little final run for our Jeff. And it starts with giving us Bryan Danielson vs. Jeff Jarrett. The Last Outlaw. The Last Dream March. Aint they great. Edited June 24, 2024 by Supremo Quote

I don’t know how many years Jeff has left, but if he was thinking of doing the Sting retirement tour, I would have him out in the first round, with massive heat on who beat him. A dejected Jeff thinking he’s not got it left in him, maybe he should retire. Before being spurred on to come back next year for one final try, building up to his Last Chance at the Owen and going on to win it all. Now ain’t the great? Quote
Paid Members BomberPat Posted June 24, 2024 Paid Members Posted June 24, 2024 (edited) Jeff Jarrett planted the seeds for him not winning in the promo himself - he said, "this is my Wembley", meaning that being in the tournament itself is what matters to him. You don't say "this is my Wembley" if the plan is also for you to wrestle in the main event at Wembley. It's a shame that they've almost hamstrung themselves by making the winner of the tournament get a title shot at All In - it obviously adds stakes, but if it had been a tournament for its own sake, I wouldn't blame them at all for changing direction and giving Jarrett a more substantial run based on that promo and the response it's got. But when there's a World Title shot at the biggest show of the year in the balance, there's no way they can have him win - but that's fine, because building a sympathetic babyface works just as well for a heartbreaking loss as it does for a big win. But if the option is take Jarrett out in the first round or in the final, I'd have him out in the final. We've been assuming the wildcard is Hangman Page, but there were "jokers"/wild card entrants in the 2022 men's and women's tournaments, and neither of them won their matches. So it's not definite that's the direction. Obviously if Hangman's in the tournament, it feels like a Page/Danielson final to get to a Swerve/Hangman rematch, and I have no problem with them going back to that well, though would rather see either a babyface Hangman Page again or an embittered Hangman pursuing Swerve for a rematch for a while rather than winning a tournament to earn one. The way I'd book it would be to have Jarrett and Danielson in the final - I wanted that even before this promo, partly because it's a genuine dream match for me, partly because on the way there you can get Jarrett vs. Rey Fenix (or Jay White, but Fenix would be my preference) and Danielson vs. Pac, which both could be fantastic. I think Danielson is probably the only person on the roster who could pull off working like an absolute violent bastard heel throughout the match with Jarrett as the underdog babyface, and then instantly switch into babyface mode once the match was over - Danielson wins, shakes Jarrett's hand, and then steps back and allows Jeff his moment with Martha and the Hart kids, let him do what he said he wanted and look them in the eyes, knowing he fought as hard as he could for them. That's your moment. Then you get to either Danielson vs. Swerve or Danielson vs. Ospreay 2 at All In, both of which would be fantastic main event matches, and both of which could justify a main event rematch at Wrestledream - either it's two home state boys in Swerve and Bryan, or it's Danielson/Ospreay 3, with 2 having taken place on Ospreay's home turf and 3 on Danielson's. The only problem with that is that I doubt they'd have Bryan beat Ospreay for the belt in the UK, and Ospreay win it back in Seattle, it feels backwards, but the alternative is having Danielson lose to Ospreay three times in a row. Paid Members Jesse Posted June 24, 2024 Paid Members Posted June 24, 2024 If Danielson's really intent on taking a step back and you want to cement Ospreay as one of your big stars I don't know it would be a bad thing having him beat Bryan three times. They're both talented enough to get you hooked on a third match where one person is 2-0 down, and Bryan's definitely good enough to make those three matches really distinct in ways that don't make them feel like a re-tread. Vamp Posted June 24, 2024 Posted June 24, 2024 Danielson can lose twice, cut a promo saying he needs to know that he can still go with the likes of Will Ospreay and challenge for a third and final chance. Quote

Danielson is on his way out though, so I think he can and absolutely should lose to Ospreay three times in a row, and nobody would think any different of him for doing so. Really cements Will as the man in AEW too. Quote
Paid Members BomberPat Posted June 24, 2024 Paid Members Posted June 24, 2024 The issue for me is less Danielson losing three times in a row - I agree that he can weather that easily - so much as him losing a World Title match to Ospreay, then getting a rematch so soon after losing to him, having already lost first time around; there's plenty of ways to get to that conclusion, it's just something to be managed carefully, and AEW generally shies away from overdoing rematches in World Title matches. This all presupposes that Ospreay is World Champion at All In, though - with the Don Callis Family stuff happening, it's no a foregone conclusion that he's beating Swerve at Forbidden Door. Quote
Guest Posted June 24, 2024 Posted June 24, 2024 If Danielson faces Osprey again, then surely the finish needs to be that Danielson beats him when Osprey refuses to hit the Tiger Driver on him out of fear for killing the man. Quote
