It's the high number of multi-person feuds that are killing the show for me. Heading into the last PPV, we had Punk/MJF, Jericho/Kingston, Danielson/Moxley - all deeply personal feuds and/or intriguing storyliens - and also Baker/Rosa and Page/Cole. Heck, even Hook/QT Marshall on the PPV pre-show was fun. At the moment, there are far too many multi-person feuds. There's little room for anything to get heated, or the killer promo you need to feel gripped. There's also far too much focus on ice cold characters or stables. The House of Black, Darby Allin, Andrade's army of idiots and The Hardy brothers. Given how good AEW has been building up to PPVs recently, the weak storylines are all the more noticeable. 5 hours ago, Supremo said: Nowhere near enough chat in this thread about them hitting yet another home run with Wardlow. Fucking moonsaults, followed by Powerbombing a seven foot giant! He's the next big thing. He may already be a main eventer, but I'd argue that that "the next big thing" is MJF as champion. At the moment, everything he touches turns to gold, so he may as well hold it. He's just incredible, and he has what it takes to have one hell of a title run. As far as Wardlow goes, I still think there are some noticeable gaps in his skillset but I'll reserve judgement until I've seen how he performs after the MJF feud is over. Quote

BCC are great but give them a proper feud now please. Wheeler Yuta is about to disappear to Japan and will miss Double or Nothing because of it. I could see Danielson & Mox enter the tag title picture for the PPV. 16 minutes ago, RedRooster said: It's the high number of multi-person feuds that are killing the show for me. Heck, even Hook/QT Marshall on the PPV pre-show was fun. Chances are there will be at least 5 singles matches at Double or Nothing. Hangman/Punk and Rosa/Deeb is slotted in alongside the Owen finals plus looks like Wardlow/MJF might happen there. Not quite personal but certainly some intrigue in them. Quote
69MeDon Posted May 5, 2022 Posted May 5, 2022 I have every confidence they will pull it all together for the PPV - they always seem to. And the PPV will no doubt be awesome, as AEW PPVs tend to be. Quote
d-d-d-dAz Posted May 5, 2022 Posted May 5, 2022 Out-of-shape, tired Jeff Hardy makes me really sad. Quote

Merzbow Posted May 5, 2022 Posted May 5, 2022 Is he doing the Swanton that way to save his neck/back in some way? It just looks needlessly painful for the opponent otherwise. Quote
Chili Posted May 5, 2022 Posted May 5, 2022 (edited) Hope Hangman twats Punk at Double or Nothing and wins. Love them both but this feud has some great wrinkles. Punk doing the 'ohh we'll have a great match' promo I reckon is Punk finding a way to unsettle Page. They'll have a good match, but Punk wants his gold. All of Hangers title feuds have had the subtext of 'Oh, him, he's the champion?' from his feuds. I like that he just went, fuck this, I'm twatting Mr. Popular. I wouldn't say subtle heel, he was just standing up for himself, because we know Punk has the cunt tendency (Eddie). Hangman's little look down once outside the ring wasn't unintentional either. Take his head off. Edited May 5, 2022 by Chili Quote

I imagine any of the impact cushioned by a direct landing on an opponent compared to overshooting it is completely negated by him landing like a sack of shit. Quote

At this point, if you're taking his swanton, you're getting squished. Quote

Or limit it to occasional matches rather than just flatten the poor bastard taking the move. Especially when Handsome Wardlow is hitting better swantons. Quote
Merzbow Posted May 5, 2022 Posted May 5, 2022 I don't think Jeff could live with himself if he had to stop doing them. Quote

This is part of the sadness I feel seeing Jeff now, I think. The crowd want him to do the swanton, they want him yeeting himself off a ladder and through a table. All the hits. But his body is clearly breaking down and given his history of drug dependance, that is not going to help him stay sober. Quote
Paid Members LaGoosh Posted May 5, 2022 Paid Members Posted May 5, 2022 Hopefully they do the Darby and Young Bucks matches quickly so he can fuck off home and have a rest. Quote

Venue also looked perfect, much rather a packed house in a venue this size than a half full larger venue. I enjoyed everything but the main event, I'm starting to feel like ROH is getting shoved down my throat a bit. I did read last week that they were expecting to get trounced in the ratings in the 2nd hour due to some other sporting event so if that's true it explains the main event somewhat. Rampage looks like it will be decent. I'll never get bored of the pop's for a HOOK graphic! Also looking forward to Jungle Boy Jack Perry Vs Ricky Starks next week Quote
