Sorry @BomberPatyou put Audrey and now I'm just picturing the big plant refereeing and my brains gone silly.

Lucky she didn't ref the cage match, she'd never have got out.

So I gave this a go. I can't remember if the only other AEW PPV I watched was the first or second one, I just remember it was the one with the Cody vs Dustin bloodbath on it and nothing else about it.

* 10 man tag. Oh great, Jack Evans.

* Miro vs Kingston. Yeah, this was really good. I don't mind Kingston as a wrestler, I think his promos are crap though. This was a good bruising fight and WWE were fucking idiots for letting Miro go. Finish was a bit crap but I enjoyed this!

* Moxley vs Kojima. I know nothing about the latter, and I've never thought Moxley was any good except for The Shield and that FCW feud with Regal. So I didn't really care about this and they just did the usual Japanese match shit until Suzuki came out and I don't know him either so I didn't care.

* Baker vs Statlander. This was alright. Baker's obviously a great talent and it felt like she was carrying Statlander but it did its job and it was good to see a convincing clean win for a babyface(?).

* Lucha Brothers vs The Young Bucks. I considered forwarding past this one because I've always absolutely fucking hated The Young Bucks and the style of wrestling they've always done, but I didn't know the other lads so I thought why not. Absolutely no hesitation in saying that I hated practically every second of this. Absolutely not my thing, sure, but fuck off. Tons of Big Moves and almost zero selling and it felt like it went on forever. No, my surname isn't Cornette.

* Casino Battle Royale. Standard battle royale, the odd fun moment but largely boring. Thunder Rosa is bloody great and I hope Ruby Riott / Soho gets something substantial to do in AEW because she's got a great look and seemed genuinely delighted to be there. Also, if you take the piss out of WWE for having someone called Doudrop, you should apply the same logic to Big Swole.

* Chris Jericho vs MJF. Enjoyed this for the most part and the ending must have felt unpredictable to people who usually watch AEW but that came across quite well to a passer-by like me as well.

* Punk vs Allin. An interesting one because it meant Punk got to do a big man match because Allin is so tiny. As Bret Hart vs the 123 Kid homages go, it was pretty good and Punk didn't seem to have lost a step. Terrible pants though.

* The Big Show vs QT Marshall. I don't know what this was supposed to be. Was it supposed to be funny?

* Omega vs Cage. Omega is alright and Cage is alright so no surprises they had an alright match. Then Adam Cole turned up and immediately made me glad I probably won't watch any more AEW for about a year because that guy is shite, mate. Kudos to how well this forum's moved on that nobody has referred to TAFKA as Bryan Danielson as 'AM-DRAG'. He looked great, being married to a Bella clearly agrees with him.

So overall not bad but nothing that I saw that was approaching a classic. Fucking Jack Evans in 2021 though, come on. And why they are still persevering with Excalibur, he's an absolute drongo.

Didn’t watch the pre show. Couldn’t be bothered.

Miro v Kingston was quite good. They’re finally pushing Miro correctly. No more pink Minnie Mouse t-shirts and saying he’s the best at video games. He’s actually being presented as a badass at last so well played AEW.

Moxley v Kojima was crap. Biggest disappointment of the night. Was just boring and when Suzuki appeared at the end, Excalibur got over excited about someone the vast majority of the audience won’t know. That fight Suzuki had with Moxley looked fake AF too..

Baker v Statlander was ok but by no means a classic. Britt Baker is proper over now though so fair play to her. Probably could have had a better opponent than Statlander though.

Lucha Bros v Young Bucks was fun. Probably a few too many gymnastic routine spots but fun nonetheless. My mate told me that Meltzer and Alvarez are saying it was “the best cage match ever” though so they’re clearly on the take.

Casino Battle Royale was a bit underwhelming but it was good to see Ruby Soho back and she looked like was having fun. Noticed JR called her by her WWE name.

Jericho v MJF wasn’t bad but why have Jericho go over? He’s going on tour with Fozzy soon. They could have done a kayfabe retirement and got the younger guy over some more but noooooo.

Punk v Allin was decent. Punk hasn’t lost a step since he’s been gone. Darby’s dives are the best in the business too. Punk was as over as you’d expect. I liked this.

Wight v Marshall was short . Thankfully. Pointless and crap.

Omega v Cage was good. A fun match but the actual match finish seemed to be a bit anti climatic. Seeing Cole and Danielson at the end was good. I’m of the opinion that WWE dropped a bollock letting Adam Cole go. They could’ve put him on Raw but then with Vince in charge, they’d have probably ruined him anyway so maybe he was right to join AEW.

Overall, thumbs up but it wasn’t as good as most people are saying.

If Jericho’s not wanting to retire, there’s not really any value in having MJF win.

AEW has made a big point of establishing that their stipulations stick, so if you’re suggesting (and I don’t know if you are) that they break the stip after his tour, that would really hurt their credibility and how people view any future stipulations they decide to run.

Why do they care that much though? It’s just pro wrestling. Going by that logic, AEW probably shouldn’t have bothered with the retirement stipulation and still have MJF go over. Jericho has had his thirty years in the spotlight and should step aside by doing jobs for younger talent.

Why should who care? Viewers?

That’s a strange logic. Wrestling, at its heart, is a story-based medium. You’re as well as to ask ‘why invest in story’

Why watch anything if you don’t care about the consequences?

As for what you say about Jericho, why do you care that much? It’s just pro wrestling.

Why should AEW care about the stipulation being final? Everything is kayfabe. Anyway, my main point was MJF should’ve got the win simply because he’s a young (and good) talent with plenty of years ahead of him to draw money. Jericho is (or at least should be) towards the end of his career.

MJF lost absolutely nothing by losing how he did. Jericho is a big name who you would be stupid to fake a retirement for. When Jericho decides its time, that will mean even more when he loses.

I think I'm about the only one in really enjoying the Battle Royal thing. I didn't know most of the women, but a load of them had characters, motivations and backstories that seemed to come over. Most I have been invested in women's wrestling about ever.

I liked it, but because its probably consistently the smoothest Casino Battle Royal they've done. The DON had the obviously better final stretch, but this having 3:00 intervals made it less clunky.

How do you know MJF lost nothing? Time will tell. He’s a good talent who should be climbing up the card toward main event status. Not jobbing to a 50 year old out of shape Jericho.

MJF bores me to tears, Miz lite. Is this an unpopular opinion? Do most people like him?

He’s the second coming of Roddy Piper in terms of mic skills and playing the heel role. Super talented. I’d say he’s better in the ring than Piper was though. He’s brilliant.
