Minor Annoyances (Vol 2)

I say "Gen Zed", for the simple reason that saying "zee" actually feels discrepant to say. Cannot explain why it hits that way. (However, I don't do that for stage names, so it isn't "Jay-Zed" and "50 Pence". For the same reason air_raid stated.)

Well no that would be ridiculous, but I do quite like 99 problems

I loved it, absolutely LOVED it when Jay-Z played two nights at Spurs and everyone thought they were so original by saying "we've got 99 problems but the pitch ain't one" WAHEEEEEEEEY, despite 4 million other people saying the same thing. Grump.

I've never said it out loud before. I'll let you all know when I've made a decision.

This is also my stance. I feel a lot of pressure for saying it for the first time now.

Our current minor annoyance: the toilet’s broken. We only have the one. When the bathroom was last done they tiled it all in so you can’t get to the pipes and cistern without smashing up the tiles. This means we have to get someone in to fix it and nobody can come for at least another week. I’ve been off work (a useful place to shit) and have had to resort to using a Starbucks down the road that doesn’t have codes on its toilet doors.

Feel your pain. I noticed a damp patch on the living room ceiling last Saturday. And it's a leak in the airing cupboard. Spoke to my plumber who's away all weekend. Monday came and I thought the central part looked wet. Put my finger on the ceiling, went straight through and water dripped through the floor. Practically begged my plumber to come round. He came, had a look and said would order the parts. Takes a couple of days. Chased him on Thursday, said he would see if the parts are in. Chased him again yesterday. Thinks the parts are there but hasn't been to the plumbers merchants yet. Asked him if he's got a day in mind for fitting them. Didn't read the message. At the moment, I'm constantly cycling bath towels around the leaking pipe daily to stop any water coming through.

I absolutely only use "zed" in normal day-to-day life but would still say "gen zee" as it originated in America and in my head is more of a name than a question of spelling.  Same with Jay-Z, World War Z, ZZ Top, etc.

It is only now that I realise World War Z is supposed to rhyme with and sounds like world war 3..? I've never seen it / read it and have always pronounced it zed in my head.

Had optional dental cover at work for 2 years but never used it. Got rid of it and one of my fillings has came completely out. “Filling” is probably generous as it makes up about half of my tooth and so I’m having to temporarily fill it for the next week or so until payday, at which point I have to go see the dentist which a couple of years ago changed from NHS to private so it’s going to be a dear fucking do.

After being stiffed by my local turning private, I found another local NHS service through here and it's the best thing ever. It's a short drive away but they are friendly, fair, and I can make appointments online.

Also in my experience work-based dental cover didn't even cover the cost of checkups. I don't know if it was weighted to a very cheap area of England, but costing it up it was cheaper for us to pay private rates for our appointments than use dental insurance!
