Good show that, right result for the main event. Possibly run the triple threat back at SNME for the title shot at SummerSlam. Gives that show a good main event.

If you're going to have your two top stars in Cody and Punk face off at Summerslam then it has to have the WWE Title attached to it.

Forget whether Punk looked skinny or ripped, his chest hair looked really odd.

In case anyone was wondering, yes, Sami is turning it into the most interesting, compelling thing on the show. What a performer.

I don't want to validate WWE's shitty booking, but Sami is so good this could be the best thing that's ever happened to him. It could be better than being a midcard cuck champion whilst the big lads headline Summerslam.

Promo of the year. Echoes of Hangman’s “…and they chose him!” promo.

Wrestling’s so much better when the characters care.

Man was robbed by that motherfucker.

Ride or Die.

Is it shitty booking if it makes Zayn a more compelling and important character?

WWE has been dirt poor with a lot of things, booking wise, these past few years but having Sami win the title in Saudi, and then having him lose it in the way he did just 9 days later, is great booking. It works because it's Sami. He is not meant to have a long reign and this just pushes him further over the edge.

I now want to see Sami v Punk again. If for no other reason than the promos, as shown above, will be filled with a mixture of genuine and worked emotions.

Or maybe Zayn ends up winning the title back at Mania and people dissecting every show look like knobs?

Come on man, if people want to delve in and dissect the shows in detail, that's up to them. You don't have to call them 'knobs', just because it's not for you.

Fair point, I apologise, my point (if there is one) is that people have moaned about booking decisions forever, I’m far from a zombie who’ll watch any old shite and certainly won’t defend shows online out of some ridiculous tribal loyalty but people do refuse to give any storylines time to develop

If this is the long term direction, i'll take it back.

I currently suspect, from my dissection of WWE booking (soz), that they gave Sami the title in Saudi because MOMENT, they've taken it off him to get title back on one of the big names, and Sami will do well just to get a rematch on SNME before being back to roughly the same level he's been at for a while.

Sami being able to make something of it is a testament to his abilities as a performer, not a validation of their overall focus on viral moments as a booking mantra.

And that's broadly what i'm getting at here; their guiding light is big moments and buzz. Fine. But it generally creates messiness and inconsistency. In this particular instance I actually think the outcome could be what's best for everyone, but that doesn't mean I think more broadly their booking style is anything less than 'shitty'.

People can react to moments though because that's what WWE want the fans to do.

People also react to it because they book week to week. They might have a long term direction in mind but they book "episodic" television, and never tire of telling you so, and part of that means they're making most of it up as they go along and they're also inviting fans to follow and comment as they go. Very little of it ever goes to plan, often because of things outside of their control like injuries or real-life drama, and often because they need a TV moment or an interesting PPV ending and they veer off course.

The ultimate example is still the Daniel Bryan "story" which had a satisfactory conclusion and they'd love to tell you it was all part of the show, etc, but it clearly was never the plan. But because they book week to week and can react and PIVOT! they were able to resolve it.

The Bloodline is their most recent success and that was boring, holding pattern shite like the nWo waiting for Starrcade 97 with only one objective - Roman doesn't lose - until they hit upon some gold with Sami Zayn and eventually Cody. And even then, they dragged the arse out of it for an extra year.

Criticising fans for trying to follow, predict and enjoy their genius fucking "stories" is disingenious shit when it comes from ghouls like HHH and Nick Khan. From a fellow fan, it's just moronic.
