CM Punk spends a career trying to get a Wrestlemania main event. Finally gets it, only to discover it’s the crappy multi-man Wrestlemania 2000 main event. Punk has had an absolutely brilliant year, yet somehow seems to be the spare part.. I will never fathom how they've got themselves here, if any of this proves out to be true. Absolute wallies. Punk v Cody v Cena v Seth v Roman v Logan Paul. Six pack challenge. Fuck it, bring the scramble match back. Edited February 12, 2025 by d-d-d-dAz Quote

Paid Members Supremo Posted February 12, 2025 Paid Members Posted February 12, 2025 (edited) What a world we live in where they’re trying to decide which Triple Threat match to shoehorn spare-part CM Punk into, whilst they’ve got a white-hot, ultra-focussed World Title singles match pencilled in for Jey Uso. Cena vs. Cody vs. Punk is definitely preferable to Roman vs. Seth vs. Punk though. They’ve done it again. The Seth Rollins Survivor Series Switcheroo! Hilarious that it’s became canon that Seth sucks, and it’s now a legitimate promotional tactic to first threaten everyone with a scenario involving Seth, so that whatever you eventually pivot to feels better by contrast. I don’t like Ketchup, but I’ll happily dip my chips in it over sloppy hot poo. Edited February 12, 2025 by Supremo Quote

Chili Posted February 12, 2025 Posted February 12, 2025 I'm struggling to feel sorry for the millionaire not getting his ickle widdle Mania main event to be honest, as much as I do think from the bits and pieces I've seen that Punk has had a stellar year. In fact he's been pretty great from his AEW comeback to now when he wasn't injured or being mental. I do feel bad for Jey Uso though in a way because it seems some folk don't want him in that big championship match spot, but I think he genuinely deserves it for the hard work to get that damn over. He's not Danielson in ring, but he's building that incredible fan support that you should pay off if the fans want it AND you make a new genuine made man at the top. The worst that could happen now is either he they get cold feet, he gets politicked out of the spot or they go mad and have Gunther win Triple H at Mania 19 style. Quote

There's probably a difference between what the audience in the venues go mad for, and what the wider audience want. Jey may yet get there, but I'd say he's still popular primarily with the captive audience. Their show closing matches probably still need to come from that pool of Cody, Cena, Roman and/or Punk. I'd argue if anyone else was going to bother that group, besides Rock, it'd be Logan Paul; but he's almost the anti-Jey, in that maybe he hasn't got enough support/credibility with the WWE audience proper. Jey should beat Gunther and win the title. They should feel comfortable calling it a 'main event'. But it won't be one of the big ones. Gunthers not that sort of champion, and Jey isn't that sort of challenger. But, if Jey continues on his upward trajectory he may be able to headline one of the nights of Summerslam this year I reckon. Quote

He already has headlined and Main Evented a Summerslam to be fair and that wasn't even over 2 nights Quote

That Roman run, he could have headlined against anyone. He probably still could. I don't think you could have run even Jey/Punk or Jey/Cena in that spot; it was contextualised by the Bloodline saga, and given credibility by Roman's astonishing star power. He was the centre of the WWE Universe. No one looked at that main event and went 'oh look, great, two equal stars colliding'. I mean that come Summerslam Jey could well be in a position to headline without Roman or the Bloodline saga to do the heavy lifting. Edited February 12, 2025 by d-d-d-dAz Quote
AndyUK Posted February 12, 2025 Posted February 12, 2025 (edited) I'm more often than not a singles match guy but I don't mind Cody v Cena v Punk too much compared to that other triple threat. Takes a bit of pressure off Cena in a Mania main event as I'm not sure how much he has left. Edited February 12, 2025 by AndyUK Quote
Vamp Posted February 12, 2025 Posted February 12, 2025 I dunno, Cena vs. Cody vs. Punk seems like it'd be wasting 3 big singles matches. With Roman vs. Seth vs. Punk you're only wasting 1 (okay, 2 really). Having said that I think I'm alone in thinking that a babyface match between Cody vs. Cena sounds shit. Quote

Yeah, but you think Damian Priest is going to be an 18 time world champion and go on to win an Oscar for his performance in a rebooted Scorpion King, proving Dwayne was a shite hawk all along. You're a preternatural optimist. Edited February 13, 2025 by d-d-d-dAz Quote
