I'm quite amused at the idea of Penta attempting a Destroyer on Randy though.

I reckon he'd just walk out of the way like Samoa Joe, leaving Penta just to do a silly flip on his arse.

Which, to be fair, is what everyone should do if we're going to start picking things apart at that level.

How does Cody do top rope cutters that don't finish people off but a normal RKO does?

There's a bazillion examples all across wrestling. It's not a Penta thing. If you start questioning stuff like that too much in wrestling you're screwed.

I know, I get it and I agree with what you're saying, it just grates on me that they've built the piledriver up to a devastating move. Didn't they actually say it was a banned move?

This. It’s one of the worst tribalistic arguments in AEW/WWE. It’s especially funny now with Penta on Raw with a lot of people who took the piss out of his move set now saying how great it is.

I don't think I'm being tribalistic. I want all wrestling to flourish.

Penta looks absolutely fantastic, but I lose interest in the ring.

I think this is absolutely it with me.

He has such an amazing look. And, more importantly he has so much potential, but for some reason I just don't feel enthusiastic once the match starts.

His promo at his Raw debut was bloody spine tingly good.

I always think the logic is anyone can hit a DDT, "but not like Jake".

It's down to the performer, but one of the best things was that brief time WWE protected the super kick for Shawn Michaels. Now the usual "usy super kick parter" is ridiculous.

I remember Carmella going through a stage of kicking the shit out of the super kick. I'd love to see someone on the women's division use the super kick as a finisher.

Is it just me that's not feeling it with Penta? How can a piledriver destroy other people's careers, and yet his destroyer piledriver doesn't even get a 3 count?

Given the response to your question, I’m actually wondering now if I’m the only person on here who thinks Penta has been really good?

I enjoy Penta in ring, and it’s still surreal to think of him in the ring with some of the WWE mainstays like Orton and Cena. I think he’s at his best as a heel, though.

I'm not prostituting Cody's reign so a part-timer can not-really break the not-real record. Even if he was one of the better main eventers of his era.

I don’t think you have to. The story with Cena’s final year surely is ‘will he break the record?’ - if he does it this quickly, it’s just going to turn into a more standard retirement tour. I think he’s should lose to whichever champion he faces should he wrestle for the title, and be forced to build himself up again, before getting his final ever title shot in his last ever match and winning.

It's a destroyer, not a piledriver.

That's the difference. They're technically different moves.

Of course whether you choose to buy into that or not as a viewer is another thing but yeah. Theres some slight consistency there.

Because he’s Indy wank.

I'm not going to delve into the entire debate about why this move beats someone and why this one doesn't, but a couple of points of Penta's offence don't make sense, such as that arm breaker he does before he does his finisher - which has nothing to do with what he just did. Having worked a whole match without working on an arm. It's pretty stupid and should actually be the finisher considering the impact it's meant to have.

He's got to stop doing that hand signal so many times, too. When's he going to learn someone's going to clock him when he's doing it.

Issue I have with someone doing the Destroyer midmatch is the same issue I have with anyone doing a piledriver midmatch: it doesn't matter who you are - you're being dropped vertically on your fucking head. That should be it, nothing more.

Are you new to Penta? He's been spamming that taunt endlessly for years now.

Probably when people stop trying to fly at Samoa Joe.

This has just reminded me that when everyone would try to powerbomb Billy Kidman and fail, I made canon of it in my head by imagining all of the locker room had got a sweepstake on to see who could be the first person to successfully powerbomb him. It was the only thing that made sense.

I hate stuff like that when people who don't usually do a move do it so their opponent can hit their trademark attack on them. Someone who never does a powerbomb all of a sudden trying one on Kidman for example.

same thing with Bradshaw - people who have never hit a crossbody in their life suddenly start popping them off against the one guy who always catches them.

I just don't think most people see a Canadian Destroyer as a Piledriver. It's a flippy-doo, where everything happens quickly enough to wow the audience and make them think, "wow, what was that?!", rather than the focus being on the wrestler landing on their head. If I had to kayfabe it, I'd say that the piledriver is driving all of the force of the move down on to the opponent's head, while a Destroyer sacrifices force for momentum, so the impact isn't as severe.
