theringmaster Posted January 23, 2025 Posted January 23, 2025 I'm sure i read that '16 times' world champion doesn't count his run as wwe champion bizarrely. Quote

You did. I've mentioned it myself numerous times whenever Flair's come up over the years. By the official count, Flair held the NWA title 10 times and the WCW 7 times, though WCW always considered the last NWA reign before he left for the WWF, and his first/THE first WCW title reign to be one reign even though on paper it would make more sense to call it 17. He was called "16-time World Heavyweight Champion" when WCW folded and the WWF for reasons unknown didn't clock that WCWs numbers didn't include his two WWF title reigns (because.. well, why would they???) so every time they use "16-time" they ignore their own history. By officially recognized reigns by the three organizations, Flair is either an 18 or 19 time World champ given that he's officially been recognized as the champ by the Alliance 10 times, WCW 7 times, and the WWF/E twice. Depending if you include that 91 reign as simultaneously the NWA champ and first WCW champion as one reign or two, an argument can be made for either. Including overseas flip-flops never officially recognized, Flair thinks the real number is 22 or 23. Quote
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted January 23, 2025 Paid Members Posted January 23, 2025 Pretty good Raw, this, they're on a real streak even if some of this didn't really work for me. So they are going with Rhea Ripley vs Nia Jax. I've changed my mind about this. Initially I was "please don't do this to Rhea" but if I think back to her last title reign, it was like Mariah May's in AEW currently. A lot of matches plucked out of the air against some decent talent but no stories at all. At least this already has a story and it's an established, if still terrible, performer. It'll give her a strong start anyway. Jey Uso and Gunther had a better segment than last week, which they both needed. I'm not sure they will put the belt on Jey because he's so massively over I don't think it will matter one way or the other. Then JBL came out. And compared Dirty Dom to Nelson Mandela. And tried too hard to be a heel commentator. What was this for? Did he need a break from blocking people on Twitter? The Kofi vs Rey Mysterio match was great. Love Kofi's new outfit and that he's changed his MOVESET to something more basic and violent. Really like the after-match stuff as well when they snuck back to the ring and battered whichever one of the LWO lads they battered. I still can't remember their names. They're the wrestling version of when I try to remember the name of my daughter's medication at Boots. But the Boo Day stuff is going well. Nice 'Baker Is Gonna Win The Rumble' sign. I'd like to see her in WWE. She's a troublemaker and a pain in the arse. It's just a bit too cosy and friendly in WWE these days. Call her Izzy Yankem DMD. Like everyone else, I'm throughly enjoying Karrion Kross and his comedy Svengali heel thing. Even more so because he's not having matches. Loved the little interview and him standing grinning behind Rollins in the back a few minutes later. I really like those uncommented little moments they're doing now, I hope they keep them going. The Sami Zayn / Kevin Owens segment was superb. Maybe they made it a little too obvious that Sami could screw over Cody Rhodes during the ladder match but they've found another chapter to their story. During this segment I was thinking what a massive influence the Bloodline story has been and continues to be. References to it during Jey / Gunther, a reference from Punk, the background to the McIntyre / Rollins match, and to this segment. It's why it's the best story of all time. It's influenced so much and it's all good. Nia Jax landed right on her fookin' arse taking a sunset flip powerbomb. Bayley tried her hardest here but, you know. Nobody cared again and it only brightened up when Roxanne Perez threw her fit. Welcome to Raw, Bayley - you lost again! Also, did I see Petey Williams during the brawl afterwards? Then Penta vs Pete Dunne. It was more or less the same match as the Gable one except not nearly as good because Pete Dunne is rubbish. They have to be careful here and quickly give Penta a feud because people will lose interest, especially when he's not doing that much acrobatic stuff (or hardly any?) and he keeps getting twatted every time he does that hand signal. This was not very good. Punk did a promo and had a pop at Hogan so I guess it was worth him showing up. McIntyre vs Rollins was fine even despite the stupid superplex spot and forearms and chops bits. Good after-match stuff, too, strengthens about three storylines in one. Pretty good. On a sidenote, I tried watching it on Netflix last night and it wouldn't work. Seems fine today though. Quote

Indeed, so to break the "record" ,as you know if it happens they will make a huge deal of it, it should really be for the main WWE Title. Not the secondary one. Quote

Not the secondary one. I'm not prostituting Cody's reign so a part-timer can not-really break the not-real record. Even if he was one of the better main eventers of his era. Besides, "John Cena goes for 17" on night 1 and "The WWE title on the line" on night 2 looks the best you could hope for on a two-night marquee. Quote
Snitsky's back acne Posted January 23, 2025 Posted January 23, 2025 Who are we thinking the luchador (did they expressly say 'luchador') is that Dominik gave the name of to Gable? It can't just be Santos Escobar can it? Quote
DavidB6937 Posted January 23, 2025 Posted January 23, 2025 Are there any luchas that were arrested that Dom may have met in prison? Quote

Captain SlackBladder Posted January 23, 2025 Posted January 23, 2025 Is it just me that's not feeling it with Penta? How can a piledriver destroy other people's careers, and yet his destroyer piledriver doesn't even get a 3 count? Quote

There's a bazillion examples all across wrestling. It's not a Penta thing. If you start questioning stuff like that too much in wrestling you're screwed. Quote

It’s one of the worst tribalistic arguments in AEW/WWE. It’s especially funny now with Penta on Raw with a lot of people who took the piss out of his move set now saying how great it is. Quote
d-d-d-dAz Posted January 23, 2025 Posted January 23, 2025 (edited) Penta looks absolutely fantastic, but I lose interest in the ring. That said, you can't compare wrestling moves delivered by one wrestler to those delivered by another. The sport just doesn't work that way, and never has really. The whole premise of special moves or finisher moves is that each wrestler has the ability to deliver something that somehow is more damaging when they do it compared to someone else. Penta's destroyer isn't as dangerous as a Kevin Owens piledriver because Penta is happy for his to be used in transition, implicitly acknowledging that he doesn't deliver the move in such a way that it does finisher level damage.
