The bullying stuff is the usual shit but there's some great scenes in this and the performances are excellent. A friend of mine did the score for this! Paid Members chokeout Posted October 12, 2022 Paid Members Share Posted October 12, 2022 John Carpenter has been a cranky old man since he was in his 30s and I'm all for it. Him telling people to fuck off in Q and As when they try and slag off Escape from LA will never not be funny. Went to see Smile on Monday and it's horseshit. Every single scare is an attempt at a very lazy jumpscare ( the laziest of all editing) it plods along, filling its time with 1 note characters. There could have been a great indie film in there about trauma but it really doesn't know which way it wants to go and the pacing is painful. Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted October 13, 2022 Paid Members Share Posted October 13, 2022 Antlers Another one that Disney threw on the shitheap. Am I right in thinking they haven't even bothered putting this on Disney Plus? Anyway, it's quite good, this. Takes a little while to get going and Jesse Plemons is slumming it a bit in this, but I enjoyed it. The Driller Killer (Shudder) Never been an Abel Ferrara fan, really, but this was one was actually quite good. Somewhat of a mess because of the low budget and inexperience of everyone involved but it makes its point well and the murders look surprisingly awesome. Glorious (Shudder) A genuine oddity, this one. Just watch it and don't read anything about it. It's a little slow at the start even for a 78 minute film but the second half is really good. The Premonition (Shudder) Weird 1970s psychological horror with a terrifying Richard Lynch performance, even more so than he usually produced. One of those films that feels like it shouldn't work, or even that it isn't working. But it's unsettling and strange and the ending is quite unlike anything I've seen. A great little curio. Triangle (Prime) My quest to get everyone to watch this on here never ended, by the way. The best of all the timeloop films, just superb and intricate and shows up with a brave and downbeat ending to top it all off.
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted October 14, 2022 Paid Members Share Posted October 14, 2022 Resurrection Rebecca Hall's move into horror has been a disaster. She's great but Resurrection is awful, distasteful shit and I think a lot less of her for taking part in this. Trauma porn bullshit. Bloody Birthday (Shudder) Superb 'scary kids' slasher film with some excellent murders and the kids are fucking great. Wasn't expecting a thing from this but it's one of the best I've watched this month. Don't Go to Sleep (YouTube) Made for TV 80s horror film with Dennis Weaver and Ruth Gordon. Starts slowly but the second half is absolutely cracking, and the ending is one of the better horror film endings I've seen.
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted October 14, 2022 Paid Members Share Posted October 14, 2022 DOUBLE POST KLAXON I just finished Halloween Ends and it's absolutely terrible. Fair play to it though because it's a different kind of absolutely terrible than Halloween Kills was. At first it's really boring, then it's unbelievably stupid, then it's even stupider. I hope that title is a threat.
Keith Houchen
I’m halfway through The Midnight Club and I’m not feeling it like the other Flanagan shows. The stories within the story seem really “Hey, I can do other genres too” or there to pad out the main story over the episode numbers. Plus Jack O’Monroe is annoying as fuck. Paid Members Hannibal Scorch Posted October 14, 2022 Paid Members Share Posted October 14, 2022 Halloween Ends not soon enough. I enjoyed the stupidity and over the top kills in Halloween Kills, but this was a series with diminishing returns. The highlight is the opening sequence, the film takes a weird turn after that tonally. The audience seemed completely bored. Not scary, not thrilling. Not angry just disappointed that this is how they went out.

I like the sound of Bloody Birthday but it's not showing up in the search on there, a film called Alison's Birthday pops up which I though might have been a rename for a different country but seems to be a completely different film. No, I subscribed to Prime's Shudder channel and their line-up is slightly different, for some reason.
Paid Members Thunderplex Posted October 15, 2022 Paid Members Share Posted October 15, 2022 Fuck me, Halloween End was bad. Who the fuck let that past quality control? They trashed Batgirl after it looked like it might be shit, but this crawled through for release? Spoiler When Micheal and the main lad, who’s name I really can’t be arsed remembering, are fighting in the sewer, it reminded me of the Jay and Simon fight in the inbetweeners movie for fucks sake. Yeah that point was where I turned it off and felt robbed for the Hour I gave it. They turned the boogeyman into a complete joke and complete opposite of anything we have ever seen before
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted October 16, 2022 Paid Members Share Posted October 16, 2022 So I watched all the Texas Chainsaw films yesterday except the Netflix one because I saw that earlier in the year and I wasn't putting myself through that. I was surprised, actually, that none of the first 8 were absolutely awful, they all seem to have some semblance of merit. 3 and 4 were actually quite good! Texas Chainsaw 3D wasn't but Alexandra Daddario.
Paid Members GlennCullen Posted October 16, 2022 Paid Members Share Posted October 16, 2022 I don't think I've ever had a more jarring viewing experience than Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, having no clue going in about the tone change and expecting more of the same from the original. A complete 'what the fuck?' moment.
