Paid Members Chilly McFreeze Posted August 7, 2019 Paid Members Share Posted August 7, 2019 (edited) Inspired by this Richard Osmand Tweet: https://twitter.com/richardosman/status/1159005124238426112 What time based facts can you use to truly realise how old you are getting? Here's one that I keep thinking about recently that happened this year: We’re further away from The Beatles ‘Free As A Bird’ reunion than the reunion was from when The Beatles broke up Edited August 7, 2019 by Chilly McFreeze
Paid Members Hannibal Scorch Posted August 7, 2019 Paid Members Share Posted August 7, 2019 If they remade Back to the Future now, part 1 would be set in 1989 and part 2 in 2049

simonworden
A wrestling based version might be worth doing but for me thinking that I took the year 2000 as a starting point for watching wrestling and went back 19 years from their it would be 1981 and full on territory days which seemed ancient in 2000 yet The Rock and Triple H is just a far in the past now. Awards Moderator HarmonicGenerator Posted August 8, 2019 Awards Moderator Share Posted August 8, 2019 Just over a month from now, nobody studying at school (up to and including sixth form) will have been alive before 9/11.

Paid Members Jazzy G Posted August 8, 2019 Paid Members Share Posted August 8, 2019 My best mate of 20 years and I work together. He told me the other day that we've known each other longer than a sizeable portion of the people we work with have been alive.
Paid Members Carbomb Posted August 8, 2019 Paid Members Share Posted August 8, 2019 The one that got me was the realisation that there are now people old enough to work, vote, get married, etc. who weren't alive in the 20th Century.
simonworden
Do we have anyone posting on the UKFF that was not alive when it was set up? I joined in 2004 quite a few years after it's set up and if they were born then they would be 15 now which would be the average joining age in the early days i'd guess. Paid Members Arch Stanton Posted August 8, 2019 Paid Members Share Posted August 8, 2019 Richard Osman's Tweet certainly has the desired effect on me, because Come On Eileen was number one the month I was born.
Grecian
Someone once described classic rock bands to me as 'Led Zepellin, Queen and Oasis.' This person was 24 years old. Edited August 8, 2019 by Grecian
Paid Members Chris B Posted August 8, 2019 Paid Members Share Posted August 8, 2019 Saw a video of 80s cartoon intros with my other half the other night, and suddenly realised that if you showed it to a kid now, it'd be the equivalent of showing me 1950s kid show intros. wordsfromlee
I work with a 19 year old lad. He once said to me “I started watching this show on Netflix last week. Never heard of it before but it’s quite funny. Not sure if you know of it but it’s called Only Fools and Horses. It’s pretty funny, you should check it out”. He also told us about how Peter Jackson’s 2005 movie, King Kong, was the first movie he ever saw in the cinema. He found it very scary as he was ONLY 5 YEARS OLD AT THE TIME! Hes also never lived in a world without broadband internet.
Retro Red
Me showing my 8yr old daughter Back to the Future today would be equivalent to my Dad showing 8yr old me Singing in the Rain.
