Compre of course comes from the Italian language and is solely used when comparing something to a pizzeria

It's Spanish and means I bought.e.g. "Compre de pie et fritas." or I just fucked up the spelling because I was typing quickly on my phone waiting for my pie and chips.

Anyone regularly go with plaice or skate? I'm always tempted to, but my infrequent chippy opportunities lead to me just going with cod for safeties sake.

Used to go with Plaice now and again when it was an option up here. Liked the difference  in taste and texture. These days we get 'fish', cod or haddock and that's that, which is a shame.

Love to see properly battered basa somewhere too as is a nice fish, just tempura overkill everywhere :(
