Was inspired to bump this topic after reading the telly thread...

Taskmaster is absolute rubbish. The epitome of smug middle-class comedy. I absolutely love a bunch of the people that have been on it but in that format everyone is insufferable.

Phew, been holding that in for a while.

In a similar vein, Stephen Fry is not a national treasure, he's a tosser.

The current Sainsbury advert is the dirt worst. I'm not sure they realized how it looks when they show the black couple debating in their car if they can afford to shop there, then cut to inside the store and literally everyone either working or already shopping inside is white. When Fry says "Good food for all of us" it feels like a silent "... even you, black people" exists. I know they probably didnt mean it to look racist, but it does. I think General Melchett narrating doesn't help.

I find it a strange thing anyway that the overall picture they've painted is "we're overpriced but there are some bargains!" Prior to Sainsburys doing their own campaign highlighting that, actually, common and poor people can afford to buy from them I'd not considered them as a posh expensive supermarket.

I have no problem with you not liking it but I don't understand the criticism 'smug middle class comedy'. Maybe because I am smug and middle class and just don't get it. Can you explain what that means?

I have the opposite reaction Lorners. There are several people who have been on Taskmaster who I find to be really unfunny but on Taskmaster I have really enjoyed them.

Conversely, while Asda have always done "Extra Special" as their version of "well, its supermarkets own, but we think you'll pay extra for this is we convince you its fancy" - alongside Tesco Finest and Sainsbury's Taste The Difference - I find it frankly absurd that they now have "Exceptional By Asda" too as their premium premium offer. Is it like, "if you can afford to shop at Sainsburys, buy Extra Special, but if you usually shop at M&S, you can afford Exceptional By Asda"??

The "M&S is expensive thing" can be misleading anyway. If you're buying ready meals, condiments and snacks, then yes, it is. If you're in for fresh fruit and veg and do the "weigh your own" and use the paper bags instead of buying pre-packed, it's incredibly reasonable.

Alex Horne accidentally getting a profiterole up his arse. Doesn't get any more middle class than that.

Unless that's just the parties I go to.

They don't call you ReturnOfTheCroquembouche for no reason.

I’d like to think this isn’t an unpopular opinion, but my contribution here is to say that in cooking, dill absolutely ruins any dish it’s part of and I’d genuinely like to see it banned. The taste, the smell…everything about it turns my stomach.

My least favourite ever dining experience (…talking of middle class) was going to the Michelin-starred Dill restaurant in Iceland. In spite of the name, it didn’t occur to me for a second that they would use dill in literally every dish, including the pudding. It still eats me up to know I spent money in that place.

Dill, dill, spam, eggs and dill doesn't have much dill in it.

I don't have the level hatred for it as you do (mainly because I've not allowed it to take up enough space in my head to get to that stage) but yeah I just can't get on with it at all despite multiple attempts and multiple friends going on and on about "you've got to watch season *X* it's incredible!".  To me it's only a slight step up from the likes of Mock the Week with the amount of mutual backslapping and overlaughing that goes on.  It doesn't help that I find Greg Davies to be incredibly forced whenever I see him on TV as himself either.

Sorry to find amusement in your suffering, but I found this absolutely hilarious for some reason.  Like something straight out of a sitcom - just picturing you receiving course after course of dill-themed dishes and getting more and more irate. I mean I detest coriander so I can't imagine ever going to a restaurant called Coriander without thinking "hang on..." ?
