Finally saw it today. Really enjoyed it, not without its flaws but it undid a little of what I hated about TLJ, which was an unfocused film about one ship very slowly moving towards another ship, while the most interesting characters twiddled their thumbs for half the film, and an interminable sideplot casino heist gone wrong buddy cop comedy.

The flaws being ; too many parallels to ROTJ much like the other two films, and I really hated how they cut the balls off a villain as good as Hux. Neither his turn nor death were in any way satisfying. Also, guilty of (like TLJ) way too many near falls of heroes dying with none of them dying so there was hardly any sense of jeopardy near the end. They didn’t even have the balls to let C3PO stay wiped!

However ; still a very enjoyable Star Wars film and Rey going back to Tatooine felt like the film giving us chance to say goodbye to the story and I welled up. Also big fan of Sidious repeating word for word his “unnatural” line from ROTS and the voiceover cameos even though it was easy fan service.

As an aside, not every one of us that hated Rose is a woman-hating racist. It’s just that her contributions to TLJ were the aforementioned dreadful subplot and the senseless prevention of Finn sacrificing himself to save the ENTIRE Resistance (missing the point entirely), accompanied by clunky dialogue about love.

I loved the Rise of Skywalker! I had the opposite feeling after seeing The Last Jedi, which was the worst Star Wars film ever made, but this more than made up for it and fixed all that TLJ did wrong. Could well be my favourite Star Wars movie of them all.

Out of interest, do you have kids?

Finally got to see it today, and for the most part enjoyed it.

I wasn't keen on having Palpatine return as he's had his slot, but with Snoke getting future endeavoured it's too late in the game to build up a new bad guy. Rey being a Palpatine was totally unnecessary too.

That said, it was great hearing The Emperor's theme again.

Horses. Stupid. What if there was no need for the "ground attack"? Yeah, we'll just have a shed load of horses clip-clopping around the ship, just in case.

Trundle-wheel-hairdryer-bot. Serves no purpose other than to provide a piece of merch at a lower price point than BB8.

Rey accidentally "killing" Chewie genuinely took me by surprise. Gutted that they only let the shock linger for about ten seconds.

In trying my upmost to avoid spoilers, I wasn't aware that Leia was made from old footage, but I had seen someone on FB whinging about a CGI Leia. As a result, my thoughts when she first appeared on screen were "Fucking hell, that's REALLY realistic".

Hux as the spy. It's like they couldn't think what to do with him, so thought they'd add a swerve for a swerves sake. With Kylo Ren unable to decide which side he's on, we needed unflinching maniacal Hux.

While I generally don't like people returning from the dead, a little bit of me did want Phasma to reappear and kick the fuck out of Finn.

Overall, it felt Star Warsy enough to fit in with what I loved about the series as a kid.

I figured that as this was (probably) the last time I get to see it on the big screen, I'd sit through the credits and appreciate that wonderful, iconic main theme. I first saw Star Wars in March of 1982 as a double bill in the build up for (as it was being promoted) Revenge of the Jedi. For a five year old to sit through around four and a half hours, and be so engrossed and captivated it seems unthinkable now. And it occurred to me that as well as being such a massive part off my childhood, Star Wars was something that I always had with my Mum. We saw the original trilogy together, the special editions and the prequels. She got me a magazine/book thing just before (the renamed) Return of the Jedi came out, detailing all the ships and the creatures in Jabba's palace because she knew that I was a nerd for such information. She took me to exhibitions of costumes and models, watch the Making Of..., and if none of my friends were available would entertain me as I played with my toys. And here I now was, 38 years later, listening to that last note sat all alone in this empty auditorium. I might have had a little cry.

Phantom Menace will forever be the worst Star Wars movie.

The idea of Hux betraying Ren out of pure spite was great imo. Killing him off five minutes later was absolute arse.

He was great in the previous two movies.

Agreed. I mean, people seem to forget in TLJ he was going to kill Kylo Ren because he thought he was unconscious, and it was only because he came to he stopped. I don't understand why this was hated on so much, it made perfect sense.

Like all of this trilogy, I found it 'OK' with some great moments. Fuck knows how much they paid Ford to show up, but I loved that scene.

I still think they should have left Rey as just a nobody. I thought TLJ did a brilliant job of saying 'anyone can be a hero' only for JJ to shit it and make her somehow connected to the Emperor.

I find Attack Of The Clones a much harder watch than Phantom Menace with far fewer redeemable bits, but I'm with you on Hux. Would have loved to see him take it further, even go back to the Resistance base with them only to realise "I've made a huge mistake".
