He's pretty much there after his statement. His defence of 'I've worked with thousands of people I've never abused' is ridiculous, rapists don't rape or abuse every person they meet.

Massive own goal that the silly egg. Am I right in thinking that the accusations are that he basically made people feel uncomfortable with shit rude jokes and language? A crime that’s committed in every work place up and down the country on a daily basis. 90% of people might be fine with that sort of thing but if the ones who aren’t pull you up on it you listen and take note, apologise and move on. Obviously this is the BBC with all that history so they have to be seen to be thorough especially when it’s not a one off. Should have just shut up, apologised, been better and moved on. Ah well he’s fucked then. There’s obviously a world of difference between inappropriate jokes and language (without knowing the context in which they were said) and goosing people. Probably tip of the iceberg stuff if he was so bold to do it in front of people. Hiding behind the “Oh that’s just what he’s like he’s only having a laugh” line of defence.

Done other stuff apparently, like walking around set naked apart from one sock. Also when a producer cleaned a spillage on his trousers he simulated sex on her.

More info about the Gaiman allegations have surfaced. This is a depressing and infuriating read. Lots of content warnings around rape, abuse and coercive control. 

I was a huge fan. Have signed stuff from events, did a uni piece about his work. I've got a tattoo because of Sandman. I know a lot of fans as well, and this is tough going for some of them, not least because of how aggressively he portrayed himself as the guy who gets all this and takes it seriously.

yeah, that's an absolutely horrific read. What had come out already was awful, but just the scale of it and some of the specifics are sickening.

I own a lot of his stuff; I was a big Terry Pratchett nerd, so started with Good Omens, and then the Sandman comics were a huge influence on me, they were something I found in the library when I was a depressed teenager, and it just clicked with me. Since then, I bought practically everything he wrote. I queued up for God knows how long to get a signed copy of The Ocean At The End Of The Lane, and that book was a major influence on something I started to write not long after and still revisit and tinker with. I have a good friend who moved to London because of Neverwhere.

I'm not going to say it hurts or hits hard, or anything like that, I don't really feel anything towards him. Too much of this shit has come out about too many people, it's just a resigned sense of disappointment now. I hadn't got round to clearing out my copies of his books or anything, for a few reason; I knew I'd probably never read any of them again, but some of them have followed me through every place I've ever lived, and there's some sentimental value attached to them. And to get rid of them is a symbolic act anyway; they're already bought and paid for, my continued possession of them doesn't support him in any sense.

But after reading all that today, I can't think of a time when I will ever want to go near his work again, and don't want to be staring at his name looking back at me from the bookshelf. It's bad enough that he wrote the foreword to fucking everything - I'm not getting rid of my Harlan Ellison short stories collection just because it's got his name on it - but I just don't want most of his stuff in the house any more. I need to go through it and figure out which copies are mine and which are my partner's, and what we're going to do with them, and just figure it out from there. I'm inclined to just fuck off the lot of it, and I never thought I'd be in that position with Sandman.

He was one of the authors I also really liked and idolised. I've met him once. Ocean is both an incredible book and a play, and American Gods is one of my favourite ever books. My wife has a Good Omens tattoo (but thankfully we can just focus on the Pratchett side)

 

When the first set of stuff came out. we removed all trace of him from the bookshelves. 

 

My heart goes out to all of the women affected by him. He's a piece of shit.

Weirdly Gaiman's works mostly passed me by. Always meant to get to them but obviously no fucking chance now.
