Paid Members John Matrix Posted June 12, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted June 12, 2017 Out and about toy shopping at the weekend, when I stumbled across this, rather wonderfully named children's gadget... Â who in marketing signed off on that!

Guest
Nothing wrong with that name, but they're on a hiding to nothing if they think they're going to outsell my simplified version of the Fidget Spinner for under-5s. Mark my words, by year's end there'll be a Kiddie Fiddler in every creche.

They've been around for years and I'm amazed their TV advert still airs with a jingle that sounds exactly like Paedos: https://youtu.be/o_02q9cly4M
Paid Members Carbomb Posted June 13, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted June 13, 2017 No word of a lie: there used to be an Israeli DJ called Pedoo. Not inocuous in itself given that the pronunciation is clearly not the same, but it comes a bit close to the bone that he had a regular residency at some club called "Pedoo's Playground". Obviously got to give him some leeway because most likely his English wasn't great, but given that he's not around under that name any more and the residency no longer exists, somebody must've had a word. Paid Members Monkee Posted June 14, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted June 14, 2017 (edited) A girl I work with was wearing a Slayer T-shirt today. I said "Oh, you like Slayer?" She stared at me blankly. No idea who they are... Edited June 14, 2017 by Monkee
Merzbow
Primark sell them along with Black Sabbath, Motorhead and a few others. I think the Hell Awaits logo was used by some big fashion brand too, it doesn't bother me in the slightest if they don't know the band but some people get so offended. Moderators Astro Hollywood Posted June 14, 2017 Moderators Share Posted June 14, 2017 I used to think that was irritating, but then I saw noted arse Martin Freeman being an arse about it to some TV host ("what are your three favourite Ramones albums?") and suddenly didn't have a problem with it. Paid Members Tommy! Posted June 14, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted June 14, 2017 Didn't Buh Buh Ray Dudley make someone at a meet and greet name 10 motorhead songs before signing something as he had a Motorhead shirt on? I remember this as a thing but may have imagined it.
Paid Members Sergio Mendacious Posted June 14, 2017 Author Paid Members Share Posted June 14, 2017 I used to have a t-shirt with Che Guevera on it, and I've never met him.
Paid Members Tommy! Posted June 14, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted June 14, 2017 Just now, Sergio Mendacious said: I used to have a t-shirt with Che Guevera on it, and I've never met him. The development of Che Cuevera into a marketing icon is a wonderfully terrible and terribly wonderful thing.
Paid Members SpursRiot2012 Posted June 14, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted June 14, 2017 I've been thinking of buying a Corbyn Che t-shirt  (yeah, I've contracted Corbynmania) but I'm not sure I can be that guy.
Paid Members Sergio Mendacious Posted June 14, 2017 Author Paid Members Share Posted June 14, 2017 One of my favorite moments in 30 Rock is the revelation that Spoiler Che Guevara's great grandfather was Domingo Halliburton. https://sphereoinfluence.wordpress.com/tag/liberal/ Â
Merzbow
There was a sweet Corbyn/Converge - Jane Doe shirt but it's not for sale any longer. Â
