Lovely stuff! I remember being appalled when you visited before and had liquor, but this gets a massive thumbs up from me. I love pie, mash and gravy.

I had an early finish at work so stopped off at my favourite chippy on the way home. Saveloy and chips did the job (I would've had fish but that's a strictly Friday treat now).

After that I popped round my parents to find my mom had bought me a chippy dinner too!

Double chippy dinner, I believe we used to call that 'winning'.

Yeah, it was miles better without liquor. Much preferred the pies too. Far crisper pastry than Goddard's that was able to handle the onslaught of gravy and spiced vinegar without wilting under pressure.

About a tenner to eat in, which for a central part of London I will take.

I watched this not long ago, really interesting.

And they also have their own channel which is worth a watch.

There's also Castle's Pie & Mash in Camden, which has been going nearly a century as well. Never been, but I think I'm going to try to get there sometime soon.

Do you mean the mash on the edge? That's the traditional London way of serving pie and mash. I'm sure there's a historical reason, not sure the specifics, but genuinely every time I would go any of the many pie and mash shops in East London when I was younger they served it like that for as long as I can remember.

Flashbacks to 2007 when I was seeing a lass from Bethnal Green. A lot of pie, mash and liquor (a tasteless parsley sauce) and bagels that for some reason they pronounced bigels.

Went for a pizza once and asked for a London and they had no idea what I was on about. Figured maybe being in London it was maybe just a plain pizza but it turns out they don’t do them at all.

Best thing I had there was an apple smoothie from a chinese place that just blended a load of apples up. Really fresh.

Up in the Northeast (maybe other places) they put chips on a Margherita Pizza and call it a London. If you get a really good one they bake the chips in under the cheese but most places just grab a handful of chips and chuck them on top afterwards. Big tub of Garlic sauce, it's up there with the Doner Pizza.

Not had a mixed grill since spoons sacked them off.  Had this beauty at O’Neills in York.  Steak was a perfect medium rare and the rest of it was nice and juicy.
