Watched my youngest play football, watched some Sopranos, had a nap, took one of the dogs for a big walk in the forest, then finished up at the kebab van.

not the best photo, but my word it was good. Chilli sauce and garlic mayo were the sauce choices. My youngest had a large doner, I don't know where she puts it. I struggled. 10/10 Saturday

Been a very good boy this month, had 20 quid credit from when they ballsed up last time so got the new Festive Dominos for lunch.

Bacon, sausage, sage and onion turkey, cranberry sauce and the rest. Decent, but wouldn't get it again, but I love a food gimmick brother. 7/10

Also had the "hot honey" doughballs which were shit. Hot honey is definitely this years pulled pork/salted caramel/matcha etc. Its everywhere and on everything.

Agreed about the hot honey thing. I'm sure it's tasty, but it's tiresome to see it in so many recipes recently.

I see your hot honey and raise you pistachios. We got a Pistachio Tiramisu the other day from Aldi and it was basically a perfectly good Tiramisu ruined by the salty background taste of pistachios.

Is that new, though? I know there's a lot of this Dubai chocolate & pistachio bollocks going on at the moment, but I'd swear there are a lot of people my age who remember pistachio ice cream as a regular of the Italian-run ice cream carts and vans. Plus baklava has always been quite popular.

Maybe it's salty pistachios that are the problem, now. I don't remember the ice cream being salty.

I think its less new things as much as an existing food product coming into vogue and l suddenly every bakery, sandwich, pizza has to have at least one product with a that ingredient. Its not like slow cooked pork or honey with chilli were new things.. although ill give you that pistachio has always been a specifically fancy ingredient for cakes/macarons/ice cream whereas the others are more general food things (i mean pulled pork is how you make cheap meat good) that suddenly got seen as a big deal

Pistachio burfi is dangerous stuff, for me. I just can't stop at one piece. I've avoided diabetes by some miracle, despite my sweet tooth, but burfi, particularly pistachio, would hurl me right down that road if I allow it.

burfi

The lovely lady at the local sweet shop had me try their new mango burfi, it's slightly odd to have one so fruit tasting but it was really good. Of course I had some pistachio in the box too, though, Jalebi is my main go to and I can demolish an entire box of it far too quickly..

The Dubai thing is exactly what I'm talking about. I'm not saying Pistachio flavoured things have just been invented.

A co-worker brought Indian sweets in from home for the team once and they remained uneaten by the end of the day. One was like a fudgey baklava but grainy with a horrible mouth texture, another were these bright yellow strands of what looked like sugar or fondant but actually just tasted like chip fat.

My missus had a pistachio McFlurry in Rotterdam and it looked like a tub of bird shit. I politely waited until she'd finished before I told her.

I've never had a Fray Bento before, but I do like Mac & Cheese. I tried the Wotsits Extra Cheesy Mac & Cheese last month and that was, unexpectedly, absolutely tremendous. So I was optimistic about this.

Oh fuck me. It was terrible. Absolutely awful.

Right, the top crisped up nicely, so it definitely looked the part. But it was weirdly crispy and tough at the same time, and didn't really taste of anything. The next bunch of layers were just this really unpleasant pale dough. The mac and cheese was kind of a congealed mess underneath, and didn't taste of much in the way of mac and/or cheese. It was also, in places, interchangeable with the dough. And it all left this slightly oily burnt taste in my mouth.

I honestly felt nauseated after trying it. And I don't know if this is just the Fray Bentos experience or not. I could see the dough layers working better with a gravy rather than a white sauce, perhaps. But I honestly can't remember trying a worse thing.
