If someone is even thirty seconds later down to the dinner table after everyone else, my Ma will serve their grub on a red hot pre-heated plate straight from the oven, just to keep it warm. I’m sure in her mind the recipient will be eating stone cold food otherwise, bless her.

My gran used to heat the plates in the oven whenever we went round for something to eat. If it was Christmas she'd get the hostess trolley on the job.

my girlfriend's dad's partner is like; serves food on a red hot plate, and if it's taken her thirty seconds longer to serve everyone else up she'll offer to reheat everything for you.

Pre-heating the oven to cook most "bung it in the oven" foods isn't really necessary. That's because there's generally a tolerance built in to the cooking time, presumably because they know most people won't do it and every oven is different. Quite a lot of stuff, if you pre-heat properly and then cook it the suggested time, it's dry as fuck. You're better off with a thermometer to check it a few minutes before the packet says.

Pizzas don't matter because they follow the golden rule that if you cook it for the required time, it will have no colour at all and then if you do it for another 2 minutes, half of it will be burnt.

My mum's increasingly taken to only having food that's burning hot. She'll immediately reheat takeaways and has sent stuff back in restaurants to have it heated up. No idea why.

You know how when you finally realise something that is painfully obvious to everyone else and it make you feel incredibly stupid? This one is even worse than the 'preheating your oven' fiasco.

TIL that when Americans say they are going to the fast food outfit 'Chick filet', they are talking about Chick-fil-A, because it's a play on words and that is how that is meant to be pronounced.

I'm only aware of this because I told someone earlier that the nearest Tim Hortons is closing down 'to be replaced with a chick filla?!' and he laughed at me for a good 2 minutes.

I've heard that those Japanese shitters pre-heat the seat.

Once you’ve used a Japanese toilet, life will never be as good. Especially if you remember to press the heated water button once you’ve concluded.

Life changing.

What we call Art Deco style of art and architecture from the 1920s and 30s was not referred to as that at the time. There's not a record of it being referred to as Art Deco until 1966. At the time it was called Zigzag, or sometimes Zigzag Modern.
