Paid Members Carbomb Posted February 26, 2020 Paid Members Share Posted February 26, 2020 Just now, Monkee said: My F1 knowledge might be too specific. It would have to be between a 10-year period of 2000-2010-ish and then I’m not one of those people who can remember who came third at the Belgian GP of 2003 or the technical specs of the engines. Obviously, you'll know your own limits, but this sounds perfect - specificity helps a great deal. And then all you have to do is gen up a few lists to flesh out what you do know, which sounds already quite extensive in itself.

Paid Members Carbomb Posted March 2, 2020 Paid Members Share Posted March 2, 2020 TIL that the prefix "Llan-" in Welsh means "saint" because somebody's translated the entire Tube map's stations into Welsh. He's gone into the etymology of the names in detail. The only one that confused me is that he's translated "Westminster" into the area's old name "St. Stephen's", and that's "San Steffan".

lanky316
I think the key to Mastermind is something specific that the question setters can't be arsed to research properly. Someone did "Peter Jacksons Lord of the Rings trilogy" a few weeks back and you could have got all but one question ("who was the director of photography?") based on one afternoon of watching the films with questions such as "who came to aid the human defenders at the fortress Helms Deep?". The majority of these contestants fall horribly short on general knowledge but I think a good score on "The Series CSI - after Gil Grissom left" would leave you in a good position. Things like Netflix would make it easier to just binge your small reference area and get a comfortable 15/16 on specialist subjects.

He's translated "St. Pancras" and "St. John's Wood", as being the names of churches of those saints. Thanks.

I was watching the celebrity version at the weekend and they were even struggling with their specialist subjects. Some lad from Radio 1 had Drake as his and scored
