Andrew Garfield was a better Spider-Man than Tobey Maguire too, although his films were a significant step down even from Spider-Man 3, which is saying something. My favourite portrayal of Peter Parker’s Spider-Man on screen is probably Jake Johnson’s take on the Spiderverse films, he’s very endearing. Quote

I wasn’t expecting to like him, but for me he’s really made the role his own, beating the odds somewhat given that he was the third Spider-Man in quick succession. He also seems like a decent guy - his interactions with kids ‘as Spider-Man’ are always heart-warming. Quote

It really helps his cause that he’s very youthful even now when he’s nearly 30 where as I’d seen Maguire and Garfield (obviously the best actor out of the three) in much more mature films/tv before they tried to be teenage Spider-Man. The Spider-Man code is the one that used to be on Live and Kicking when I was little, The two Spiderverses, then some distance, then the first two Maguire films then who gives a fuck. Quote

The Man-Thing movie was released in some territories theatrically I believe. Just direct to DVD in the US. Quote

I she'd tears at the end of the last arc when he found the costume Ma Kent had made for him. This issue I found his problem with hearing everything and finding it overwhelming was quite analogous with my sensory issue. Quote

All I want is to see Frank Castle shoot people in the head. Instead this spends way too much time on John Travolta's boring crime boss and his boring wife and his boring henchman and his boring issues with the cartel, interspersed with Frank Castle having the odd boss fight. Tonally all over the place too. It fleetingly evokes Death Wish/scuzzy 80s exploitation movies which is when its at its best, but for the most part it's a tedious affair. Did I mention it's boring? Spider-Man 2 - A highpoint of the entire genre. It surprised me watching it back just how little Doc Ock is actually in the film. This is much more interested in the Peter Parker/Mary Jane story and the usual superhero shenanigans are just a backdrop to that, and it's all the better for it. Man, I miss when these films had actual heart. Blade: Trinity - I think the Blade series is the biggest victim of this project so far. My memories were of it being a decent little trilogy. It's not. The first is fine and 2 and 3 are dogshit. The acting across the board is really bad here (Parker Posey, take a bow) and Ryan Reynolds drags the whole thing further down with a truly terrible annoying role (I think that may be a common theme across this project). Fair play on them for getting Triple H to lay down in 2004 mind. This also has a nasty strain of homophobia/misogynistic insults throughout which were probably par for the course at the time, but fucking hell lads it's a cape film. Tone it down will you. Elektra - I quite liked this! I don't think I could describe it as a Good Film, but like Daredevil it had a certain charm to it and worked for me in a completely undemanding, turn your brain off way. Maybe it's the Terence Stamp factor, or maybe it's just nice to see a ninja/martial arts take on the Marvel universe which doesn't take 13 episodes to get going (I'm looking at you, Netflix Marvel). Fantastic Four - My reaction to this was a lot similar to my Elektra reaction. Much more fun than I remembered, and a much better time than that boring First Steps shite they put out last year. Undeniably cheesy but I thought they did a good job of showing the different powers across the four and the teamwork between them. Nothing fantastic (he-he!) but I enjoyed it overall. Quote
