If anybody has read the Woman Of Tomorrow series it does a pretty good job of retelling that. Jason Momoa is good, but Lobo feels a bit shoehorned in, especially when they could have used him for a really important bit right at the end which undermines the whole point of the original book. I was surprised by how short it was, as the actress said to the bishop, but also didn't feel like it needed to be longer. The stuff they didn't do from the book wasn't missed, as all it does is reinforce the main story beats, and would probably have switched off even more people than would likely have been turned off by DC going woke and doing a superhero with a strong female protagonist. It was a fun movie and I enjoyed it. My nit picks are just that. Quote

Totally agree, but I also feel like the only reason Lobo is there is to try and shut those kinds of people up. I mean there was a huge kick off over the fact that she wears shorts under her skirt. He did a decent job, even if the second film is shit. Quote

Dai Posted July 20 Posted July 20 I can only assume that loads of the proper stars have been left off this first trailer on purpose, as they surely aren't banking on the following for this film: Fantastic Four (one film which was mildly popular at the box office) Thunderbolts (one flop of a film) Shang Chi (one film ages ago) New Captain America (one flop of a film) Ant Man (disaster of a last film) Xmen (fair enough) Or is it a case of all of these just being small side characters, and the majority of the time will be spent with the big stars on their own or together (Downey, Hemsworth and Evans). Considering the disaster the last few years have been then it would probably be wise just to not even treat it as a big ensemble and just focus on the three main characters. Quote

Merzbow Posted July 20 Posted July 20 The real comicbook adaptation news of the day is Afterlife With Archie, no idea if they're bringing back actors from Riverdale or Chilling Adventures of Sabrina though but obviously there's characters from both in this. Weirdly it's a comic that was never finished despite being heavily lauded. Quote

I'd imagine a bunch of those jobbers are getting killed by Doom in this one, setting up Secret Wars for some big returns. Quote

The cheap morning showing is 11am instead of 10, which means I don't have to worry about getting up quite as early, but I have a feeling that's because it's balls deep into the Summer holidays and will potentially be full of kids, in spite of it being a 12A. One of the best bits of those showings is that there's at best a dozen or so people. A screen full of excitable kids doesn't sound like my usual fare. I might just go for the 10am showing anyway. It'll only be a quid or two more, and not the worst price to pay for some peace and quiet. Doomsday trailer reminded me of the Endgame stuff where they're going "look at all these people who will be in the movie." Secret Wars could be an absolute mess. It depends on whether they're taking it from the 80s Secret Wars with Warworld, the Beyonder and the black Spidey suit etc, or the Secret Wars of the 2000s with all the parallel universe shenanigans and God Emperor Doom manipulating it all behind the scenes, plus there could be people who watched the Secret War show on Disney+ wondering where all the Skrull have gone. I wonder whether they've cast RDJ as Doom so they can do a Superior Iron Man type thing, and somebody else is going to turn up as Tony Stark in Victor's body. There's a lot to be pondering. Quote

Well to be fair, it is a film predominantly aimed at kids. A 12A is still for kids. Quote
