I think pre-1990 Buster Douglas bubble bursted Mike Tyson had the tools to hang in any era. I don't think he'd have been anywhere near as dominant had he come along 10-15 years earlier when you still had Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Norton, Holmes, Shavers, Lyle etc knocking about but anyone with the combination of power, speed and aggression that Tyson had at his peak would've been a problem then, now and at any point. He was actually really good at making his short frame work to his advantage.

In the end though, Tyson was always a mental midget. Teddy Atlas said that you could see mental weakness in him even before he was a pro where he'd let things get to him and look for a way out if an opponent wouldn't go away or just buckle under his attacks. And you could see that later on in the losses to Douglas and Holyfield in particular.

The fascinating thing about Tyson's style was that he resurrected Jack Dempsey's style from the 20s/30s, which Dempsey had developed as a small heavyweight to deal with the bigger guys, and evolved it past what it had been when it was obsoleted by the new era of big heavyweights. Combining the Dempsey technique of using bobbing and weaving to attack and defend at the same time with the peek-a-boo stance to minimise his target area, he was definitely a puzzle a lot of 80s heavyweights couldn't figure out for a long time.

I'm not really a Tyson fan - I grew up with an Ali fan for a dad, and I myself really enjoy watching Floyd Patterson's technical striking (the only thing Ali couldn't match him for IMO) - but the fact he took an old style and made it new again makes for great watching.

anyone catch Matchroom's Nxtgen show on Friday? It's a new series that focusses on showcasing young fighters...i saw a lot of backlash on twitter about it but anyone who went in expecting to see competitive fights were clearly barking up the wrong tree, its pure showcase stuff, but it was short and sweet.

The two guys i had interested going in Anthony Fowler and especially Josh Kelly came exactly as advertised. Fowler's thirst for getting into a slugfest is gonna get him unglued at somepoint but like everyone's saying, following him is going to be fun. As for Josh Kelly...if the point of these types of shows is to get people talking and create some kind of clip for the highlight reel, it was mission accomplished. Granted there's nothing coming back, but the boy looks a bit of a talent.

http://boxingondvd.co.uk/specialist.html - these guys are great if you're after individual fights. Quite pricey, think they're around £5 per fight. Boxing traders are quite different than wrestling traders in that they generally charges a bit more.

Might be best to avoid boxerbeat123 - ordered a bunch of sets from them and received zero correspondence and zero products. Ended up getting my money back by raising it with PayPal.

the Pacquiao world tour kicks off in the wee hours of Sunday morning.

There was a big backlash to this originally but i feel the outrage has settled. Ive never seen Jeff Horn fight but the general feeling given Horn's style is that despite being out of his league this won't be a dull fight, there's a big push behind them saying Pacquiao is after his first stoppage in 8 years.

Fight's on Boxnation.

I honestly don't give a flying fuck about Mayweather vs. McGregor, THIS is the big, morally repugnant, match I'm pumped for later in the year.

Nigel Benn and Steve Collins have told BBC Sport they have agreed a rematch - even though neither man has fought since the 1990s and both are over 50.

Benn, 53, and Collins, 52, were once among the biggest names in the super-middleweight division.

Dublin-born Collins has twice beaten Londoner Benn, who retired after their second fight in 1996.

Details of the third fight are yet to be agreed but Benn expects it to take place in October or November.

Benn, nicknamed 'The Dark Destroyer', held the WBO middleweight title and the WBC super-middleweight belt before retiring as a fighter following his second defeat by Collins at the Manchester Arena in November 1996.

The Londoner, whose son Conor made his professional debut in April 2016, has talked up the possibility of a return to the ring before.

An attempt to organise a rematch with old rival Chris Eubank came to nothing, but both Benn and Collins have indicated that they are ready to fight each other again.

If the British Boxing Board of Control refuses to sanction the bout, both fighters have said they would seek a boxing licence from abroad.

"It's about the final chapter," Benn said. "It's about closure.

"I was going backwards and forwards with Chris and I thought: 'I wouldn't have a problem with Steve.' So I asked him if he wants to fight. He said yes. No mucking about."

Collins, who ended Eubank's unbeaten record to win the WBO super-middleweight title in 1995, last fought in July 1997. An attempt to come out of retirement in 1999 was halted when he collapsed during a sparring session.

The Irishman has also talked of fighting again in recent years, saying in a 2013 interview that he wanted to take on Roy Jones Jr.

Collins, whose son Steve Jr has been a professional boxer since 2013, said his motivations for taking on the fight with Benn were financial.

"It's just about money, a payday which will allow me to buy some more land," he said.

"I have no problem for Nigel. I have a lot of respect. I like him."

About 80000000 things that could go wrong and scupper the match and it will be utterly terrible even if it does happen, but I am still quite excited.

Thanks for the heads up. I had no idea Pac was fighting this weekend.

Oh, and if it happens, I hope Benn beats Collins. The fight I would really like to see is Collins vs Eubank. Their back and forth during SKY's "The Gloves Are Off" series was hilarious. Eubank played Collins like a fiddle.

You'd think Benn vs Collins would at least have a better chance of happening than Benn vs Eubank. Just because it wouldn't involve having to deal with Eubank.

But when you think about it, wasn't Collins having trouble with his ticker at the end of his career? I vaguely recall him having a scare with his heart halfway through a training camp or something and his doctors advising him to retire. That was like 20 years ago. If he was nearly clapping out in camp back then I dread to think what could happen in 2017.

Has anyone seem the World Boxing Super Series that's being set up for the end of the year. It's one of those random events that get announced that i half expect not to take place, but like the Super Six this thing actually looks like its happening.

https://worldboxingsuperseries.com/

It's 2 x 8 man tournaments, knock out style to crown a champion at the end. World Titles will be defended during the tournament and the lineups are looking pretty impressive:

Super-Middleweight:

* George Groves (England, 26-3) - WBA Super Champion

* Erik Skoglund (Sweden,26-0)

* Jamie Cox (England, 22-0)

Cruiserweight:

* Marco Huck (Germany, 40-4)

* Yunier Dorticus (Cuba, 21-0)

* Mairis Bredis (Latvia. 22-0) - WBC and IBO Champion

* Krzysztof Wlordarczyk (Poland, 53-3-1)

* Murat Gasiev (Russia, 24-0) - IBC Champion

Looks legit so far, they are loading them up.
