At one point even got a European spot. I suppose you need the bank holiday weekend for the playoffs which causes issues. The Championship play off final has one of the most fantastic builds you could get though, so makes up for it. They still do don't they?? Quote

Maybe it's because 6 teams qualify for the CL that the winner has probably already qualified for Europe. Edit: Yeah you're right. Last time a winner didn't already qualify for Europe through the league was 2013 with Swansea. Edited May 16 by westlondonmist Quote

It's been a long old day. Edited May 16 by SuperBacon Cups Quote
westlondonmist Posted May 17 Posted May 17 BBC saying Alonso 4 year deal, surely with Chelsea he'd try and negotiate 7. Quote
Members SuperBacon Posted May 17 Author Members Posted May 17 As I mentioned earlier in the thread, most managers compensations are now tied to a certain length of time regardless of their contract length. So take De Zerbi for example, even though he's on a 5 year contract, if he leaves or gets sacked, he "only" gets that years pay not the whole 5 years if he leaves before that time. Very common in football now, and of course varies but I'd assume Alonso is the same, as reportedly was Rosenior. He hasn't walked out of Chelsea with 7 years wages for 6 months work. However this is Chelsea who have players on 1000 year contracts, so probably not. Quote

I figured it was like that for a long time anyway, if you can get sacked with 2-3 years left and paid all of it then there's no incentive to actually do a good job. Although I imagine there is clauses such as if you relegate or fail to get Europe you could potentially get less. Quote

Constantly rewarded for failure and mediocrity and as its a fairly small pool, you'll always go and get another job. What a racket. Quote

Moneymoneymoneymoneymoneymoneymoneymoneymoneymoneyyyy *shlurp* I remember, some years ago, someone on Twitter totted up how much money Mourinho made in severances from his Destroy & Exits just before he was about to get the sack from Tottenham, and it was something in the realms of £97m from four clubs (including Spurs). Andre Villas-Boas has to be one of the most successful failures due to his payouts from Chelsea and Spurs. I wish I could be shit at my job and get millions in severance pay. Quote

AVB got Spurs their highest ever Prem points total after Modric and Van der Vaart left and only struggled the season after (thus got sacked) because the DOF spent the Bale money on players he didn’t want. He was far from shit for us. Anyway, in news from this decade… But… but… but…. that’s not the rule anymore, right? RIGHT??? Quote

RIGHT??? Who really knows. The refs, the VAR officials and the pundits all seem to have different ideas about how to implement the handball rule from one game to the next. Gary Neville bizarrely just seems to want whichever outcome hurts Manchester United the most. The Premier League Match Centre can't spell Bryan's name right, so they aren't off to a very credible start, but in any case the Premier League's own rules state the following: It is an offence if a player scores in the opponents’ goal: Directly from their hand/arm, even if accidental, including by the goalkeeper -Immediately after the ball has touched their hand/arm, even if accidental Mitigating factors -Goal not immediate -Goal scored by a teammate -Ball not entering goal; however action of a defender So the handball being by Mbeumo, and the goal being scored by teammate Cunha, following a ricochet off a Forest player, might suggest an appropriate decision was actually reached in the end, but if this was the case... Why were VAR studying the handball at all, and what the fuck is the ref on about with the accidental justification? Those are not relevant factors. Edited May 17 by Arch Stanton Quote
Paid Members Wretch Posted May 17 Paid Members Posted May 17 First I’m seeing of this as Old Trafford don’t have a screen in the ground. Don’t give a fuck tbh. My main takeaway from the game is that I demolished three (3) chicken balti pies in quick succession at half time. On the way back to Nottingham and it’s a minor miracle I haven’t gassed the rest of the coach out. Quote
Tim Healys Chutney Spoon Posted May 17 Posted May 17 Glad Newcastle did us a favour today. Just, effectively, need a point on Tuesday to pretty much guarantee survive and West Ham down. Then again, this is Spurs so it'll no doubt still go down to the final day. Be good to get safety all but assured on Tuesday and use Sunday as a farewell/thank you/fuck off session for a whole lot of the first team squad. Quote
Rossman Posted May 17 Posted May 17 Normally listen to the footie on 5 Live, but the Google Nest was playing up so listened to Man Utd v Forest on TalkSport instead. I use to think Sam Matterface was well regarded, but he just spouts drivel and a totalitarian on the refs decisions. When Casemiro was subbed off, I gave in and turned it off. "He's a great servant to the club" he's on £300k a week! "Not a dry eye in the house" he's had half a good season in 4 years! Rose tinted spectacles indeed. Quote
